STD & invitation etiquette

Our STD's will be magnets with one of our engagement photos on it and just say when we're getting married, the city, and that a formal invite will follow. I had wanted to put the address for our wedding website on these also so that guests can look up directions, attractions, and hotel booking info before the invites actually come out. But will they think we're just fishing for presents by doing this (since our registries are also on our website)? I have not seen an STD with the website on there, so I didn't know.

Also, even if we do this, I know some guests (esp. our elderly relatives) won't check the website. How do I share info about hotel blocking--that they get a discounted rate if they book by a certain date? Is it OK to put this on the actual invitation?

  • It's very common, and not at all gift-grabby to list a wedding website.

For those who don't check that website, you can include an info card in your invitations. It's not necessary to put all of that info into the STD, and folks will probably just lose it if you send it that early anyway.

It is fine to put the website on the STD's.  I did it, and I recommend doing it.

You can make an accommodations card insert for your invites that have the hotel and block info on them, including dates they must be booked by.  I also included our website on our accommodations card for people in case they tossed the STD.

It's perfectly fine to mention your website on both the STD and an insert in the wedding invitation.  Likewise, it's fine to provide information regarding accommodations, travel, directions, etc., on an insert or inserts with the invitation.

If you're worried about appearing gift-grabby, then don't add registry information to your website until after the actual invitations go out.
