Re: Out of Date Words.

  • I never say supper, but I remember it being explained to me as a kid that dinner is just the largest meal of the day.  Probably regional though.

[QUOTE]Ha, I say sweet all the time. OH - when my parents say "hook up" in the sense of hanging out with a friend, like, "Are you going to hook up with Becky and Sarah this weekend?"  I have tried for YEARS to break them of this by informing them that in the college world and beyond, this does NOT imply a simply platonic encounter!

    Oh noes.
  • Stop trying to make fetch happen! It's never going to happen!
Oh no we dropped the groom!! imagePlanning Bio UPDATED
  • The Most. As in, 'wow isn't James Dean just the most?' Granted I never have heard anyone outside of a 50s teen movie say it, so I guess people are aware of that!

  • I always thought fetch was a southern/regional term. As in "fetch up that pitcher"...

And Brie, we still call couches davenports in my family in homage to my late grandma Smile
  • Anything ending in -izzle.
Using "my old lady" or "my old man" to refer to your partner.
"Hip" or "square" to refer to cool or un-cool things.
    Um, "cool?" Or "chic."

Disclaimer: I'm not above still using most of these words. I like the retro stuff. :)

  • very.  As in, Fishy, you are so very.

It might be a coincidence, but I haven't heard anyone use the term drysink in a long time

  • Arb, what's drysink? Maybe I'm the one out of date here.

Um... it's like a dresser/cabinet but doesn't have a flat top - it's sink-shaped (I have no idea what the technical term is)

We had one growing up at my parents house, but most people I've met have no clue what they are

  • awesome is definitely not out of date. I still use it and totally.

in my family, we use "dinner" to mean a ginormous meal eaten at a holiday where we're only cooking one meal. like Thanksgiving, and eating about 3 pm. on a daily basis, it's breakfast, lunch, and supper here.

    holla is out of date

Oh yeah, I've totally seen those! My parents had one too, I've just never heard the name. It's like calling something a davenport now. :)

I think "humping" is out of date too now, yes? At least I hope it is.
