hotel recs?

I booked a block of rooms at the New Yorker Hotel in midtown because it very convenient for my wedding venue.

I'm looking for a second, more affordable option (above option in $249 a night which is not bad at all for NYC.) As long as its not all the way uptown I don't really care where it is. Any ideas?

The W hotel was able to have us block rooms for $179 a night, as was the Bryant Park Hotel.

Are you all kidding me????  How did you do this?  When we've done our preliminary checks, we were getting outrageous prices!  That's why I love it here! LOL...Thanks...

We're looking at October, maybe that's the difference?  When were you getting your rooms for, Alison and Christina?

If you don't mind Brooklyn, try the NU Hotel in Cobble Hill.  They gave us rates starting at $179/night.

Our wedding is August 28th. The trick is to call every hotel you can think of and tell them a low rate a different hotel has given you and how many rooms you are looking at. With the recession, hotels are not filling up like they used to so they are wiling to give you better rates. We booked rooms at the W New York on Lexington, The Bryant Park Hotel and The Hilton Garden Inn Times Square (this was the cheapest!).

    Hope I helped!

Bryant Park Hotel has the best beds EVER and not to mention their service is great. It's the only hotel I stay at when I travel to NY (which is A LOT!)
