Thank You cards (possibly stupid question)

FI and I just received our first wedding gift (2.5 months before the wedding!) from one of my coworkers that I see every day.

Do I send a thank-you now, or wait until after the wedding?

Send one now but do not use it.  Same with any checks/cash you receive.

yeah - I knew the rule about not using it - just wasn't sure when it was "appropriate" to send the thank you.

This may seem stupid, but why aren't you supposed to use the gift before the wedding? The giver sent it to you so you could use it, so why not? Just wondering.

Because in the event the wedding doesn't happen (for any reason) you are supposed to return the gifts in the same condition you received them.

I already sent all the TY notes from my shower and then I got a wedding gift.  My wedding is only another month away so Im waiting and sending all the wedding gift TY together....this is so I can stay organized.

Stay organized? Why do you need to stay organized to put a note in the mail? Seems like it'd be harder to put it off than just do it as you get them.

That makes sense, I guess Iit just never occured to me before... And since I haven't recieved any gifts,I haven't made this faux pas!
