ABC bridal shower?

Has anyone heard of this before?  I got an invite to an ABC bridal shower.  There was a letter circled on my invitation indicating the gifts I purchase should start with that letter.  I'm just thanking my lucky stars I didn't get X or Z, lol!

Re: ABC bridal shower?

  • I think generally these sound really fun, but people don't like to be "told" what to get.  What letter did you get? Could you get something small with that letter and then get what you had originally planned/wanted?

[QUOTE]I've heard of them before but never attended one. I think its fine for the people who get the easy letters like B (bedding, bath towels), S (spatula, serving tray, sheets) but for the less common letters I think its a PITA. <strong> Also because it doesn't really take the guests budget into account if there are limited things that start with that letter.</strong>

<div>Exactly. Like "Z," do they know market price for a Zebra right now?? They don't come cheap. </div>

I got a P, so it should be too bad lots of P things to choose from on the registry.  I hadn't had anything specific in mind about what to get so in a way in makes in easier for me, but it does kinda of stink for those that get hard letters!  I was just curious if anyone else had heard of this/been to one/had one since this is the first I've ever heard of something like this.  I feel like it would be a cuter idea for a baby shower, but not so much bridal shower.
  • I've heard of these, but instead of bringing traditional shower gifts, the people have to get either booze or a game with the letter they got. My friend that had been invited to it was just looking for wine that began with her letter. Oh, and it was also a couples shower hosted at a bar.

[QUOTE]I agree, it would be better for a baby shower. At least a stuffed zebra is pretty cheap. :)

<div>Yup! That would be super cute for a baby shower! I think people just want to be unique and cute and feel they need a theme.  Simple & elegant can be a theme too.  I would just try and have fun with it, and it looks like you are!</div>
  • Duds, good idea! I was thinking I would get something from that Swiss brand Zuhn Rikon? I don't know the spelling.
  • When I went to an ABC shower, the ABC part was for the wishing well. So the regular presents were whatever you wanted.

This is what I've heard before. At work one day we were helping a woman find items for Q. She needed small wishing well items so we found q-tips and Queen Anne's Cordials (chocolate cherries) for her. She was still able to get whatever "bigger" present off the registry she preferred to purchase.

  • I don't understand the point of a wishing well.  It's a shower, I'm already bringing a gift.  If I wanted to include something small, I would (and often do).

As far as the ABC thing, I think it's fun but I know a lot of people dislike being told what to get, even if it's a category.  I've never seen the ABC before, but I've  been to a couple "around the clock" showers where you're assigned a time of day and you get something that goes with that time.  H's family hosted an "around the house" shower for me and everyone was assigned the room of the house.  Somehow my mom got stuck with the laundry room.
