Bec

Sorry if this has been touched on, but where were you and DH seated in relation to the rest of your guests at your reception?

Did you have a sweetheart table?

How many guests did you have?  Seated or buffet?

Re: Bec

  • I never even sat down at my reception. We had a table for us, our parents and my girls, but we never made it until after the reception was pretty much over.

I had a buffet, and each table had a picnic basket for each guest. Everything was individually wrapped, so guests took their baskets down the buffet table and filled it with wraps, mini salads, chips, etc. and then they could eat at the table or grab a picnic blanket and go out on the lawn. Only the little girls actually took a blanket to the grass though.

    I had 120 guests. HTH!
  • Wow!  That's really creative and sweet!  I like that idea. A lot.

A couple of more q's: what time did your ceremony take place?  How did you light the backyard?

Did you do anything special to spruce up the yard, like plant flowers, plants, etc.?
  • Ceremony was at 2pm, and the tent was lit with big round clear bulbs. The ILs have a big set of lights that light the back yard up, but pretty much everyone left the yard by 6. Half of us went trick or treating, the kidless adults went back to the hotel to rest up and get ready in costumes for the afterparty, and the remainder went inside the house to drink some more and wait on us to get back.

Funny story about the yard. When ILs asked us if we'd like to have the wedding there, I was really excited. MIL's pretty english gardens, the weathered arbor and gazebo, the pond... it was all perfect. I wanted an old, weathered look, and I told them they did NOT need to do anything to the yard.

In six months the gazebo/arbor had been practically rebuilt and painted bright white, there were brick walkways and outdoor fireplaces built, trees cut down, landscaping and then re-landscaping, until it was all brand new and picture perfect. If you wanted a brand new looking yard. LOL I think they dropped about $15K on that yard for the wedding, after we begged them not to. What can you do?

Aside from their work, I bought about $100 worth of these mums to line the right side of the aisle, and that was it. But honestly, the yard would have been perfect if they'd just left it alone.

  • Aw, Bec!  That is funny!  The backyard and your "look and feel" really came to life.  I love it!

    Thanks for answering my questions.
  • Thanks! Are you doing an outdoor wedding?

I really just think my MIL had been wanting to update her yard, and the wedding was a great excuse to do so. God love her! :)

  • I think so.

We're having to play around and get creative due to budget constraints.
