Would this be a totally $itchy thing to do?!?

So, I am ordering my bridesmaid's dresses from a different shop than my dress (fell in love with one designer).

I picked the shop which was closest to me, and had the bridesmaids call in their measurements, but not put a deposit (I am paying for this one).

This shop is COMPLETELY unorganized.  I called in once to see if everyone had called in, and they took my name, couldn't find me, took my number and said they would call back.  Never did.

I contacted each BM and they said they all had called in, so I called in again, and said "I believe all of my BMs have called in, I would like to know how much it will be so I can put down a deposit and order them." (they are picking their own dress styles, so they're different price).  They said "no - only two bridesmaids have called in"  (which I KNOW is not true).  Fortunately I was wary of the shop, so I had all the BMs send me their size/style so I could make sure the store didn't F' it up.  So I gave the measurements/styles for the other two girls.  They said "well, we'll have to look up the price, can we get your number?"

Guess what?!?  NO PHONE CALL!!!

I want to order them this week (this was my deadline).

I'm really close to calling another distributor of the designer I like (which  may be farther out, but right now, I just don't care), and just ordering the dresses somewhere else!  I'm SOOO frustrated with the shop I chose.  Would this be horrible of me?  There is no money at the shop yet, so I wouldn't lose anything...

  • I'd absolutely order them somewhere else. If they are this bad at getting their act together, do you really trust them to get all the dresses in time? Definitely don't give them any of your money.

  • I would order the dresses elsewhere or go through a reputable online seller, such as netbride or pearl's place.

  • Just order them somewhere else. Obviously that shop doesn't need your business.
  • Pfft, they obviously don't care about your business, and I wouldn't trust them to get your order right. I'd go somewhere else.
  • I would definitely order them elsewhere.  Hell, this shop seems so disorganized that they may never even notice they lost your business.

  • Why would this be horrible of you?  You don't owe them anything, they have been horrible to you!  Definitely find another shop.  You might watn to look for one with good reviews, you can check yelp.com or weddingwire.

Good luck and don't feel bad at all!  They didn't earn your business, so they don't get it, end of story.

see?!?  THIS is the thing - they are listed as a provider on the designer's website, AND they had good reviews from Yelp and either weddingwire or here...I dont' remember

  • Order them somewhere else... if your BMs know what's going on with the vendor, they might be relieved not to be working with them.

I would also give the designer "feedback" on the particular vendor so they know what is going on.
  • I'd order elsewhere.  I might even go so far as to contact the designer & let them know you had such a difficult experience ordering.  The shop doesn't seem to care, but the designer might.

  • I would call them and let them know that you are not going to order from them.  Then definitely take your business elsewhere.  I agree with TR that you should try ordering the dresses online.  You will get a better deal and I found netbride to be extremely responsive.

(I suggest calling the original shop just to cover your bases.  They sound like the type of shop that wouldn't be following up anyway, but it sounds like you don't want to deal with them so I think it would be beneficial for them to know that they've lost a customer.)

Good point.  But make sure you stand your ground - know which dates you called and gave them info (approx. times as well) - so they won't try to get you back as a customer, and they can try to reconcile it in the future.

Who knows, maybe it's a receptionist or shop manager that doesn't have things organized for their shift while others might... you never know.
  • I'd take my money and my business to another location. The last thing you want to worry about it if they will even arrive back on time.
  • order them somewhere else! if this is what happens before you've even ordered them, imagine what might happen after you do!

  • Thanks.

I called somewhere else, they were SUPER helpful, and even informed me that one of the dresses did actually come in a size 0 (the other shop was going to make my super-duper-tiny bridesmaid order a 2, which would have to be taken in at least 2" on every measurement).

AND - the second shop I called was cheaper!  Extra bonus :)

Oh, that stinks!  Then I'd also suggest you post a review of your experience on those sites as well so other people don't use them!  Good luck!!
  • Order them somewhere else, and maybe talk to a manager at the store you first tried.  Tell her/him that you're very disappointed with how your order was mishandled and hope that they get their stuff together for the next customer.  But you should definitely go elsewhere.
