Contract for Hair & Makeup?

We're having hair and makeup done on-site and I've spoken and e-mailed with one of the owners of the salon (it's a husband and wife) to set up the date and she told me I'm on the calendar.  The husband handles all on-site bridal hair and we have one of the makeup artists coming as well.  She gave me a discounted price over the phone for the makeup artist.

I don't have a contract for any of this, though.  Is that normal?  Did you have a contract with your hair & makeup person or was it just like any other appointment at a salon, they say you're on the books and that's it.  She said the last time we spoke (a couple of months ago) that we had plenty of time to worry about a contract/deposit, but I still don't have one.  Should I keep bugging her or is that rude and unnecessary?

Re: Contract for Hair & Makeup?

  • We had a contract, but it was mostly just to provide the address of where the MUA was to go the day of. Does your stylist know where s/he needs to be the day of your wedding?

  • Mine was just like any other salon appointment, except that they kindly opened early for us on a Sunday. No contract.
  • We have a contract with the MUA.  Haven't finished the hair part, so I don't know about that.

I would feel better knowing there was a contract, but they might not do it often enough for them to think about it.
  • No contracts here. I'm using the same hair stylist I've had since 7th grade, and my bp basically has the run of the salon for the morning.
  • I have a contract and paid a deposit.  She's coming to me though, don't know if that makes a difference....

  • We have a contract.  She's traveling to me, but also, she's blocking off part of her day for my event, so she is protecting herself by having me agree to give her business and pay her.  I think it's fairly standard.
  • It's not standard practice to have a contract.  Places that specialize in updos and bridal parties might.  I know more and more salons are keeping credit cards on file in case people no-show as it happens more than you'd think.

  • I didnt have any kind of contract for my hair dresser/MUA. And she traveled to where we were. I had a trial on the Tuesday before, gave her the address. And she was there exactly when she said she'd be.

  • Ok thanks ladies, it makes me feel better! :)  They are a really popular, established salon so I doubt they would just up and not show up.
