FI is a Liar!

So I was just talking to FI about how we need to go tomorrow or dare I say Thursday to get a few more gifts.  Since I am unemployed and need to get a car, we decided on no gifts this year.  He just tells me he got me something little not to worry about it though.  So I figured I would get him this automatic pepper dispenser that he wanted and we would exchange a small gift.  I ask him if he spent more then 25 dollars and he said yes and then says a lot more... but he told me don't worry about it because I am not working... Now I feel weird with a little gift.  Should I get something bigger or just leave it alone.  I wish he could have just stuck to the "no gifts."

Leave it alone.  If you think about it, he was just trying to do something nice.  I'd get him the pepper grinder, just so I'd have something to give, and let it be.

I wouldn't cause myself financial hardship and I wouldn't stress out trying to find something.  If there's a gift you want to give, that you already know what it is and where to get it, and you can afford it, feel free.  But, don't stress. 

I overspend on people sometimes because what I want to get exceeds the spending limit we set.  I don't expect them to do the same.  I give what I want to give because it makes me happy to see them happy and because I can afford to do so.  I'm thinking he's of the same mindset.  (PS - that also means he can buy for himself.  A sweet card can be as meaningful as a gift.)

Just show up to "present giving time" naked--that should do the trick, and even the playing field.

Thanks for the advice...I guess I am just stressed out over last minute shopping...and pepermill + blowjob would be his best gift...lol!

Scott does this every year. We decide to not get gifts. He knows I take it seriously, and I know he'll inevitably get me something.

Although this year, we decided to give each other a trip to mexico, so I doubt there'll be gifts this year.

I'd leave it alone too.  He knows and understands your situation.

One year, I had NO money.  None.  I got FI tv trays from Target.  He bought me something significantly nicer.  It happens.

but for real, it happens. I'm sure there will be years or times in your life where you get him something nicer than he gets you. Such is life.
