Terrified to Get Married? (KPS)

Hi everyone,

I lurk a lot, but I saw this KPS and today is slow and figured, sure, I'll discuss it.

The KPS says: "Know what I wish we'd discuss on E?  Whether anyone else was TERRIFIED to get married, even though they loved their FI and WANTED to be married to him"

(Sorry, I suck at PIP.)

For me, I wouldn't say terrified, but pretty anxious.  It seemed like such a big deal, which I do think it is, and would involve so many life changes, and I kind of was freaked out.  But I've been married over a year now, and I have to say that I absolutely love it and it was the best decision I ever made.

Anyone else?

  • Not I. I don't have one once of fear of getting married. I can't wait to be married.
  • Terrified.  Yes.  Totally.  I always equated marriage to the end of one's life, because of my mother's horribly trapped existence.  Although my life is nothing like hers and my guy is nothing like the guy she married,  I am terrified.  I am having the cold feet convo regularly with lots of married friends.  Apparently, it's totally normal.  Talking with people I trust has really helped - I'd recommend it!

Me too.  I wish it was this weekend, tomorrow, today, yesterday.  But being nervous isn't a bad thing, you're not buying a new pair of shoes, getting married is a big life decision and a big step, it's pretty natural to be nervous.  The part you should watch out for is the "am I doing the right thing/is he really the one/what if my ex and i are better together?" stuff, that's something you need to talk to a counselor about

  • I don't have one fear or doubt at all.

I don't expect anything to change in our relationship, except my last name and a joint bank account.

We are so embedded in eachother's lives already that we might as well be married!!

    I'm so excited :-)
