Carpet Sweepers

Does anyone own one? I have a strong desire to buy one. Mostly because I think the sound they make is really soothing. I wonder if they would work on tile.

I just think of the Eddie Izzard bit about carpet sweepers...I see them kind of like the push lawn mowers...they just push stuff down and it pops back up when the coast is clear.

Yeah, I know...zero help.  Nope, don't have one.  I use a swiffer on my hardword floors.
  • I think I just mostly like the sound they make. I wish that white noise machines would have a "carpet sweeper" setting. I'd buy that.

  • I don't even know what that is.  Do you mean like a Roomba?

No, the handheld, non-electric things that ushers at movie theaters use.

    Look how glorious!

Oh, we used those at Ponderosa to clean the dining room, I worked there in high school (mid 90s).  Nope, sure don't have one now!

  • It might be neat to buy one and have to keep around for my future kids. Kind of like having a typewriter, rotary phone and a turntable.

  • I think if you're going to get something like that, you should just get the Swivel Sweeper.
  • Does the Swivel Sweeper make that awesome brushing sound? That's really what I'm after. I love it when the people at work use the carpet sweeper because it is like a wave of calm that goes over me. Kind of like when someone with a soothing voice reads to you.

  • I just laughed through reading this whole thing. Thank you.

  • My sharper image sound soother does not have this as one of their options. Perhaps they should.

AHHH! That one sounds so rickety, though. The one at work sounds smoother. I wonder if they'd think I was a freak if I went to the maintenance closet and found out the brand.

  • I am not sure they even sell sweepers anymore.  A Swivel Sweeper can't be used on carpets, just hard surfaces.

What exactly is the purpose of a carpet sweeper anyway?  Can't you just use a vacuum?
  • I missed the part where you wanted to use it on tile.  I hate to use my big vacuum on the kitchen & bathroom floors because it kicks back stuff....I actually use a small upright that my mom got my brother for college.  Its like a dust buster, but has a long handle like a vacuum.

just spill crumbs in your work area then go get it, and take note of the brand.

Instead of having a zen garden, I could just dump a bunch of popcorn on a low-pile rug and carpet sweep away.

  • I am so asking Santa Claus for a sturdy sweep this year.

I read it quickly and thought it said Swifter Sweeper.....not swivel sweeper, my bad.
  • Apparently a reading & typing fail, because I typed Swivel lol.

I have a Shark & love it!  I know not a vacuum type machine.  But If anyone ever wanted one, get it!  I used to get on my hands and knees and clean my kitchen floor, not anymore.
