NWR - xmas party ideas

I was just assigned the task of thinking up a "fun" xmas party for the office.  It's about 20 people including spouses.  Any ideas?

(They did the Casino last year, that was my first thought but it got squashed).

My family used to do an 'around the world' Christmas theme each year.  The person hosting would choose a country and make foods that they eat, decorate like they would, and show some traditions that country used for the holiday.  It was actually really fun!

Oh, or a movie theme type party.  The Grinch, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc.

andress - thanks those are cute ideas - though I'm not sure if it's the type of crowd that would dress up, there's a huge age range from mid-20s to late 60s

    mandy - $1000-$2000

    my thoughts so far are:

dinner at canal ritz on the rideau canal with skating afterward

    or

sugar shack with meal, then sleigh ride afterward

We do a christmas party.  Cocktail style.  Fancy.  For 30-40 people.  Budget is more like 8k though.  So, I don't have any ideas in that sense.

Our luncheon is $1000.  And we bring in catered food... usually appys.  We play pictionary, have wii tournaments, booze.  Good times.

$8000??  wow I wish I could have that kind of budget for a xmas party :)

one year when i was working for another company my boss took us all to mont tremblant for dinner and to stay the night, that must have cost him a pretty penny - and the next year it was chateau montebello - i really miss those days.

I work in oil and gas.  We have nothing but money.  (for now)  And 8k is scaled down.  Big time.  We used to spend more.  We have less staff though and we have tighter purse strings the past year and a half.

I'm telling ya, the west is where it's at!

This is SO true!  Mr Stack works in oil and gas and their Christmas party consists of inviting ALL of the workers families to breakfast and a visit with Santa - which includes a present for all the kids.  He works in like a 20 story building.  That's a lot of families!!!!

    You're in Ottawa!

Last year my boss had Thyme and Again cater a lunch for us - it was really good and very nice.  Not themed though.

DH has had Christmas parties (at Collection and the Mercury Lounge) with themes such as "Night in New York" (Black and White dress), Casino (done).  Good Luck!
