Hey! KPS poster! (And the rest of you lovely ladies)

What are you referring to about the personality disorder one?

The only one I remember is the KPS about Anti-Social Personality Disorder?

I just don't remember anyone ever saying anything about people with personality disorders being crazy folk or that they weren't able to acknowledge that they had one.

Now, I DO remember someone responding to someone who was afraid that she had antisocial personality disorder, which is a different deal altogether.

Re: Hey! KPS poster! (And the rest of you lovely ladies)

  • I think that was referring to the KPS a while back about someone thinking she has ASPD and then when it was discussed here on E, someone said if you had it, you wouldn't be worried about having it.  Apparently today's KPS has been upset for a while because that all happened a while ago.

There's a thread on SB detailing the saga complete with links to all secrets, but I think the most current secret sender got their panties in a twist because someone responded that if you think you have a personality disorder, you most likely don't.  Because part of the diagnosis of a PD is that the patient doesn't think there's anything wrong with their behavior.

  • Whew.  I was gonna have to get out a white board and start drawing for realz if I hadn't sorted that out.

KPS Poster #3 - I didn't submit any of them (or I might have been less confused!) but I don't think it was a slight to people with diagnosed issues.  I think it was just an attempt to comfort the first person who posted and encourage them to talk to somebody who can diagnose them, if appropriate.

  • Thanks! :) I think Poli, J&K and Sun should form a task force with us to provide psychoeducation in times like this. Even though the ladies here seem pretty savvy about it too! I'd just like to help prevent people from being called stupid bitches for no reason, if I can help it.

p.s. I didn't submit any of those posts on TKPS either, in case anyone was wondering. ;)

  • It's... ugh. Months ago, FBIL offered to help Charlie and me by letting us use his pickup to rent a trailer and take my stuff, since getting a trailer is much cheaper than a truck. Basically, the deal was that we pay for getting a hitch put on his truck, and then he drives it for us. But now his truck is in the shop, and will be for another day, and we were planning to leave yesterday. So I sent Charlie and my sister out to Wisconsin with my car and a bunch of stuff, and I am marooned here in NJ until the truck is fixed. And FBIL has been kind of a grumpus lately because he is going through a bad breakup, which is understandable but still, sheesh. So yeah.

Probably more than you wanted to know. :)

  • It also makes me think of Dexter(!!), since we just started Season One over the weekend.

We called the Ice Truck Killer way before he was "revealed". That's the latest episode we've seen.

  • Oh no, so now you get to ride cross-country with a sulky FBIL in a questionable truck, and behind schedule to boot? I'm sorry. At least Charlie and your sister will get out there early and can clean and unpack before you get there. ;) Moving sucks though, and I hope it's all over for you soon!

I've seen the first two seasons so far (waiting to get out to Milwaukee to start the third with FI) and I also called the Ice Truck Killer early. I am totally obsessed and can't wait to see more.

And Beatles, that pretty much sums it up. I'm hoping that the trip won't be too cranky once we get underway, because historically we've gotten along quite well, but the situation has become something of a pressure cooker at this point. And I miss FI and my sister.

  • You have to have a history with conduct disorder and a slew of other requirements to be diagnosed with ASPD. Personality disorders, generally speaking, are rarely diagnosed for two reasons: A) those who have PD's rarely seek help (ppl with BPD seem to be an exception), and B) by definition it implies that the person's personality/character traits/behaviors are fixed--meaning they don't change with time or experience. Psychologists are very cautious to diagnose someone with something so rigid--the very point of going to a therapist in the first place is to change or modify your behavior (and most ppl are capable of this).

This is not to say KPS poster was not diagnosed with a PD, but it seems more likely they misunderstood their diagnosis or were misdiagnosed.

I've only known/met one person who was diagnosed with a PD--and it was Borderline Personality Disorder (much more common in women).

If said person has been diagnosed with ASPD I surely hope they are getting the treatment that condition requires. It's pretty much impossible to treat (bummer). So if *I* were you KPS poster, I'd get a second opinion.
