How you durrin?

I'm killing time til FI gets home from his work roadtrip. I'm also having a delicious seasonal microbrew. If you can get your hands on Abita beer, I highly recommend it. So what's up with you? Anybody here?

  • I love Abita!

I'm here.  I just gave myself a mani.  DH is at the driving range.  I'm also doing laundry to get ready to leave for the weekend Saturday morning, and reading a bit.

  • Uuugh laundry. I just got done folding one load and I'm waiting on the next to dry so I can fold it and put it away. I feel like I'm always buried under a mountain of laundry. It makes me so happy when people in places relatively far from LA can get, and like, Abita. FI's toured the brewery. It's about an hour from where we live.

  • We had it on our HM in New Orleans--it's everywhere down there!  We're doing a tour of the Boulevard brewery here in August and I'm excited.

Laundry sucks.  No way around it.

  • I'm shopping for shower hostess gifts. I thought my MOH/sister was hosting it alone, and I found the most peeeeeerrrfect thing, but I found out that even though she is planning and executing basically the whole thing, the cost will be split among all of the girls, which is super nice, but 3 more gifts I have to think up and I am suck at gifts. I found a nice body scrub for each, now I'm trying to choose a small personal item to add on. Blargh.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

  • Oh, gawd, TJ, I wound up having SEVEN shower hostesses.  Plus, one kinda-sorta hostess who bought the cake and I felt bad and bought for too.  Those gifts nearly bankrupted us.  Seriously, someone just take charge.

I'm being Judgy McJudgerson about an invite I got today for a wedding at the end of September. That wants a response 6 weeks in advance. With a gap. And addressed me as Mrs. DHFirst Last when I kept my name and have sent them mail with a return address label indicating that.

  • I'm a pretty uncreative gift giver too. I always try to give people stuff they'll use often, which sometimes makes for boring gifts.

Brie, I've never heard of Boulevard. I'll have to look into that. And yeah, you'd be hard pressed to find a place in NO that doesn't have Abita. Random fact, Abita Brewing and I have the same birthday, exactly. They had a big 20th anniversary bash in NO, and that's where I went for my birthday. It was awesome, especially since they apparently didn't notice I was underage.

  • I'm sitting here with Sam Adams (local beer) waiting for FI to get home too. It's been such a hectic/crazy two weeks, that I haven't had a chance to even come on here until today.  LC, where did your FI have to travel to?

  • Boulevard is big in MO/KS/IA.  I'd never heard of it in Chicago.

TJ, I am also about to go make cake mix cookies per your suggestion.

  • Almost, he was in Birmingham this week, which is within driving distance of us. So thank God I'm not at the mercy of a godforsaken fucking airline. He's gone during the week for usually about 6 weeks at a time, but with weekends at home, so he's all over the place. And usually flying. I think every airline in the US has a personal vendetta against us. They screw him almost every time.

At first I was all "I am woman, hear me roar" independent like. After about the third week, I was blubbering. It's taken some getting used to, and I still have bad days. But for the most part, I'm adjusting. It could be much worse. I can't fathom how hard it is to have a deployed FI or H, so I try to count my blessings.

I'll probably go read my new book in a little while.

  • I've never seen Moulin Rouge. I have a pretty severe aversion to Nicole Kidman and her gingerness. I just don't think she's all that attractive. Too bony and angular for my taste.

  • Another random thought: I'm starting to seriously think about when we'll bring our devil spawn into the world to wreak havoc. And it's freaking me out. Right now (TMI warning) I'm reading an article on TB entitled "Crotch Care 101." Quite frankly, it's horrifying.

I mentioned having spawn to one of my coworkers today - she laughed for about 5 minutes.  The thought of actually having a child i'm responsible for scares the shiit out of me.  Well, me and my bank account.

  • Abita Purple Haze and Turbo Dog are great beers. They have them at a few places out in Boston.

I am drinking nBud Light Lime, watching last night's SYTYCD while FI is on a call for work in  the other room. I am officialy on vacation, so I felt justified in drinking alone.

Almost, what kind of doggies do you have? They are awesone looking!

  • Yeah Nicole Kidman isn't my favorite actress, but I love this movie.

I'm reading Every Man Dies Alone.  Its pretty good.  Its by Hans Fallada.  The book is based on a true story about Germans who rebel against the Nazis during WW2.

Nick has really been pushing the baby idea lately.  I get excited, then I freak out.  Especially when my friends tell me about child birth and all the nasties.

And now I'm curious about crotch care 101.

I would call the store you got the vanity from.  Maybe someone could come out and look at it?  Or the company who made it.  That sucks and that's too expensive of an item to just let it be.

After reading that article, I had to call my mom and ask about it. My mom swears childbirth wasn't nearly as bad for her as everyone made it out to be and that she really didn't have any problems at all. Hopefully it'll turn out ok for me too. I'm thinking about it now because I know I'll need like five years to mentally prepare myself for all the brouhaha.

  • I would bring it back anyway, or at least call.  It's not like there's something you could have done to it to make the drawers not shut.  I am one of those people who calls and writes letter until someone does something.  Annoying, yes.  Productive, yes.

I know I want a baby, its just a matter of when, but when are you ever 100% ready?  Its the little thinsg I'll miss when I have a kid.  Sleeping late, going out for a beer, extra spending money.  Then I feel selfish when I say that outloud.
