Re: Kate Middleton's engagement ring is...

  • I think the ring is beautiful and the sentiment behind it is beautiful. i also think that Wills is still good looking.

  • I think that people who wear sapphire engagement rings are the best people ever. I also think that its really really sweet that she is wearing it. Those boys loved their mommy so much.

  • Was anyone else wondering what Harry gets to give his FI when the time comes? If my mom died and one of my other siblings got the engagement ring I would be devastated, but maybe that's more of a girl thing.

[QUOTE]Okay, I know I'm not the springiest, best looking or shapliest chicken out there, but does Kate Middleton look older than 28 to anyone else?

Really?? I don't think so at all. I think she is a really pretty, classy, yet down to earth and casual kind of girl. I don't think she looks older than 28 at all.

[QUOTE]I was going to post about this! I'm not sure I'd like that, tbh. I understand the sentiment around it, but man. That's a lot to live up to. And it's not like Diana was happy married to Charles.

I agree. I get the sentiment, but it was a failed marriage. Eh, it must mean a lot to them, even though I would find it weird for myself.

[QUOTE]That gorgeous saphire ring is probably worth more than most of our diamond rings!

Um, yeah, definitely. I believe the most recently appriased value was somewhere around $450,000. Because it was Diana's, it is truly priceless. Back in 1981, it was purchased from Garrards for around $40,000.

Personally, I think the sapphire is too dark, but still beautiful because of the size and the setting.

Penelope Cruz has a similar ring, but a much brighter sapphire.

  • I think one thing to consider is that Prince William may not see it as an entirely failed marriage. After all, it produced him and his brother. Regardless of how it ended, the marriage of his parents was certainly a significant, and a positive, thing for him. So why shouldn't he gift the most important woman in his life with something that symbolizes the union that gave him life?
  • Kate does have to live up to the image of Diana. That's what the royal family does; they work for and promote charities. This didn't make Diana a saint; she was simply doing her job. The royal family doesn't run the government; it raises money and awareness for charities. I've read that Princess Anne of all the royal family is the most tireless of workers and no one is calling her the People's Princess for the work that she does.

As far as the ring goes, I'm not sure I would want to wear it under the circumstances, but again the royal family is all about tradition. I actually did select a sapphire/diamond ring but had completely forgetten, if I ever cared, that Diana wore the same combination.

I didn't want to offend anyone who possibly owned a $450k engagement ring (as unlikely as that is!)... Mine definitely can't compete, even though I love it!
