HEEEEY WEDNESDAY!

Also known as Onsdag for us Swedishy folks.

Re: HEEEEY WEDNESDAY!

  • Hi Snippy! How've you been??

I didn't watch the State of the Union... I meant to but I fell asleep on the couch and snored right through it.
  • Hi AK! I'm good good. Just finished lunch and I'm full and happy. woot woot.

How are things with you? What's the weather in MI?
  • Things are good. H is working in BC again so I'm doing the home alone thing. Again. But I'm driving down there most weekends to spend with him. It sucks but he's making such good money it's hard to complain.

The weather here is stupid. We've barely had any snow, and what we have gotten has melted away because Mother Nature can't seem to remember that it's winter.
  • Ugh, Cfas, do you think this could be a delayed reaction to new water?

AK, weekends in BC? I'm sorry. That place is such a dump.
  • cfa- I have a huge painful zit that showed up out of nowhere a few days ago right in the middle of my fricken cheek. I feel your pain.
  • Morning. I think I'm going to go through an entire box of tissues today. Man I feel awful and keep getting hot flashes. Training will be fun this morning. But at least my voice is back, kind of!

I stayed up late watching Justified last night and am feeling it today. Totally worth it.
  • Snippy- you're not kidding there. Luckily H's mom is letting him crash at her house so we don't need to do the hotel thing again, and she's got 40 acres a little north of BC so it's quiet with fewer crazies.
  • Morning!

We didn't watch the SOTU last night.  We went to a concert by the university.  The opening act was unusually bad, but the main act was pretty good.  H's friend invited us then didn't show up.  I'm a little irked about that.

Right now H and I are at gridlock over the house.  We had the inspection, and now H is freaked out over the eventual costs of owning the house.  I still think the house is a good deal and think H is just getting the jitters.  But argh.

  • Morning.

I woke up at 4:30 AM to something that sounded like a jackhammer.  Look outside and there's a drill going on, in our street, at the bottom of our driveway.  Never managed to completely fall back to sleep...and woke up to no water.  And H is trying to figure out if he can get the car out of the driveway to get to work.  YAY WEDNESDAY.

The good news?  At least we still have electricity.  Hopefully things will start looking up from here.  I can't wait to get to work so I can brush my teeth.

  • Good Morning!  I watched Alcatraz last night and I think I'm hooked.  I'm sad I missed the 2 hour premiere last week, but even still it seems like a really great show.

I just saw highlights on the news this morning of the SofU.  I don't talk politics on TK though.  I'd bash my head into a wall dealing with some folks.
  • WHY DON'T YOU CALL ME OUT BY NAME STACKS :)

I am ready to take on the day. Thats all I got.

    Thank god its hump day.

  • Bay, why on earth were they jackhammering at 4:30am? I'd be so pissed.

We are dealing with Navy planes right now that are annoying the hell out of me. The base by us is having some kind of training thing and jets are flying overhead and rattling the house all day, as late as 11pm. It's been like this for over a week now and I am so over it. They have a number for noise complaints, but really. What are they going to do, stop training? Doubtful.
  • Cfas, that is OBNOXIOUS.  I was be furious.

Sesh, I noticed your posts about that.  That sucks :(  Any idea when it will be over?

  • Cfas, I'm assuming she means from moving into your house.  That water might be different in your shower than you're used to.

Mica, I hope it didn't come back with too many problems?

Bay, WTF. I would have called the city and biitched them ooooooout.

Herro to everyone joining us! :)
  • Bay, no idea. I doubt they'd tell me if I called. I just want it to be over.

  • Snippy, for me, nothing the inspection turned up was surprising.  It's a big house.  When the inspector says that it should be repainted soon, that doesn't surprise me, and the cost is expected.

Somehow I think H thinks that everything should be perfect and/or cheap.  I've been having to use the "it doesn't work that way, cupcake" line on him, and he doesn't like it.  :P
  • Well, you wanted to change the color anyway, right? It sounds like he's getting cold feet about buying a house. I can't imagine as I haven't bought one before, but I assume it's stressful.
  • Yup, I want to repaint the house.  It's not cheap, repainting a big house.  H had no idea that home maintenance costs were so high.  I think he has a poor idea of how much ish costs in general, since he lived like a bachelor for so long, and now that we're married, I handle the finances, so he really doesn't see how much is our cost of living.
  • Thanks, cfas.  You make me feel better.  We did pick a very conservative inspector (my realtor says he has cost her a bunch of sales because he always finds a lot of stuff wrong with houses), because I'd rather overestimate costs rather than underestimate.

H just said that I get to make the final decision.  I'm going to sit on this for a few hours and then call the realtor.  I do wish H was more supportive of this, I hate making a huge financial decision on my own.  But at least he acknowledges that I'm the one who has looked at 80-100 houses in person, hundreds online, previously owned a house, understands our financial situation better, etc.
  • Mica I think the fact that your H is leaving the final decision up to you is b/c he really deep down wants the house, he's just honestly scared.  So making you say, "Ok, lets do this" takes the pressure off of him.  Sucks for you, but I think that kind of seems like his backwards way of showing you support the best he knows how.

So just tell him he can't say, "I told you so" ever in his life if he leaves the decision solely up to you, and then go buy the dang thing!  WOOT!

    Congrats!
  • Thanks, Stacks!

And sorry everyone for spamming the GM threads with my househunting saga.  I promise it'll stop (hopefully very soon!).

  • It can't stop until we see pictures!  (that's a new rule I just made up)
  • Mica, I can't blame you.  I wouldn't want to be the one to make that decision on my own either.  But being a homeowner is going to be so worth it!  I can't wait to see pictures of your new place.

  • Morning!  I have study partners for micro!  I've never studied with other people before, and I'm oddly excited.  We're studying Sunday around 7-7:30.  Should I bring some kind of snack?  Would that make me look like the weird overeager girl?

I feel you guys on the early morning noises.  We used to have a rooster that would come into our yard and crow at ungodly hours.  H and the dogs chased it away, thank goodness.

  • Mica, I totally agree with Stacks. Sounds like he's just throwing it in your court so it takes the pressure off him.  We are friends with a guy who makes his living paintint houses professionally in Michigan, and he said you can easily estimate 10% of the purchase price of a home to repaint it. That's not cheap for anyone.
  • Good morning!
Last night we watched the Cavs almost beat the Heat on TV...It would have been a sweet sweet victory.  But alas, the life of a Cleveland sports fan.

    Stacks-
The 2 hour premiere of Alcatraz was really good.  I highly suggest trying to find it online to watch.  I think it explains a lot of why the female detective joined the team.= (same with the large guy from LOST).  We DVR'd the next episode and will likely watch this weekend.  I think it is going to be an interesting plot line.

    Mica-
I hope your H decides on a house soon.  We are just in the initial stages of house hunting (trying to find the areas we want to look in, etc.) and probably won't try to get preapproved and seriously start searching until the summer.  I'm the frugal one in our house, but I also handle the finances and have a pretty good grasp on what we can afford in our area.  FI is starting to freak out a little bit because we can afford a lot more house where we live now than where our parents live.  He doesn't seem to understand that square footage doesn't have the same cost in every location.  And he doesn't think we should try to buy a house that has similar square footage to his parents' house.

  • Mica, your H's concerns are one big reason why we're still waiting. If something happened (broken septic tank, foundation issues, tree falls on house), we'd be screwed. For now we're more than happy to rent and let the landlord pay for stuff. Right now we're trying to get a tree taken down that will cost about $2K. We'd never be able to afford that if we owned.
  • Morning, hoars!  I took the day off but have I a dentist appointment.  Boo.
