So Eastie, you're saying you don't want a sparkly man who will bruise the crap out of you during sex?  Huh.  ;)
  • Options
Ew. Personally, I wouldn't want a man to love me like a fictional character. Especially one written from a woman's fantasy perspective... not even kinda sorta realistic.

Also, I want to be on rho's cousin's team. Wink

Wait. There's a sex scene where she gets all bruised up? I thought this was like a preteen series?!

It was until the fourth book, which got ca-razy.  I don't want to give any more spoilers, but umm, yeah.

What sex scene would you be talking of? 'Cause I'm sure it's a fade to black and then the morning after. *le sigh*

Haha, Alix, FI and I discussed this on Sunday and this is exactly what we both predict.  I wonder if they will even mention the bruises?  FI still can't figure out how they will make the movie PG-13 though but he is sure they will want to since PG-13 films tend to gross way more than R's.  Umm, yeah, my FI is familiar with the Twilight Saga, what are you trying to say?  ;)

I know nothing of Twilight and I am attempting to maintain that ignorance for as long as possible. Coveting 17 y/o boys is not my idea of a good time.

I'm with Sun. And Rho's cousin. I know nothing of Twilight other than what the media says. I have yet to read/see. And probably won't do either. Although I did buy Twilight Sweetheart candies for my friend. She's a Twilightaholic and I love her. So I gave Twilight $1 for the candy.

Well, technically the boys are 100-something year old vampires played by 20-something actors portraying 17 year old students, but I get what you are saying.  I mistakenly saw the first Twilight movie and want nothing more to do with the series.

S'all crap, in my opinion. Lamest fad ever.

Thank you ladies for confirming my decision to NOT let my child read this series at this point in her life.

I'm opposed more for the bad writing and over dramatized nonsense than the sparkly vampires.  Twilight just makes me nauseous.
  • Options
Gag. I wouldn't want a guy to love me like Edward Cullen. His love is creepy and stalkerish.

I think its great and all people are reading, but I dont know why its necessary to get all fanatical over it. Why does everything "good" have to have fanclubs and fantatics and screaming women freaking out over it. Why cant things just be appreciated normally.
  • Options
Completely agreed, nebb. I hate even saying that I like the books because I don't want anyone thinking I'm a nutso. Not about Twilight, anyway.
  • Options
I love stephen king books but I didnt freak out and draw "the shining" on my face and scream like a nutso when I saw him in toronto two weeks ago. I like things in a normal capacity, and I think a lot of people have lost that ability.

I have an appointment to get Will Ferrell's face tattooed on my left butt cheek. Is that bad?

I saw the first movie and was physically ill. No joke, I got sick in the bathroom immediately after. I'm a diehard disney fan but even I know that disney gave me unrealistic expectations about men(princes, but at least those were human!). This is just worse because now you're giving unrealistic expectations about inhuman men(I'll revisit the logic on that another time).

Really society? really? and you criticized Harry Potter for supporting withcraft but Twilight is totally fine? Harry Potter got children to read 800 page books instead of playing nintendo, and didn't promote sex (ok ya the last few got violent) but at least that had a good message about good triumphing over evil, not some silly little girl chasing after some ridiculous boy.

Atleast harry potter fanatics were kinda neat - rather than just screaming and flopping around tehy would create entire costumes. I saw a big dude dressed up as hagrid when the 5th book came out, it was pretty impressive.

So.  Hi East.  Since we're of one mind so often, I figured I'd just move into your head.  Saves on utilities and upkeep.

I like what you've done with the place.

I've tried to avoid all things Twilight, but I'm pretty sure Edward isn't a real vampire.  Pretty sure a real vampire would have banged Bella the first night and then killed her.  I don't think there should be such a thing as an Emo vampire.

I too want to be friends with Rho's cousin :)

I also think it's really creepy how many people are lusting over the non-Edward person in the series...who is played by a 17 year old.  I think it's a load of crap the amount of criticism people give Miley Cyrus for people over-sexualized, but when it's a boy whose only a year older than she is, it's acceptable.  Not like I don't think Miley isn't deserving of it, but it's a complete double standard.

I think it's sad that adult women are behaving like teenagers over this.

I think it's ridiculous that (and even twi-hards will admit this) something badly written with so many flaws gets this much attention, making the bad writer a fortune and encouraging that kind of thing to continue.

I think it's bizarre that pretty much any retail product out there has now got an "inspired by twilight" version of some kind.

I think it's insane that there are edward cullen panties.  That have an image of his face on the inside.  I also am pretty sure that if men had boxers with a woman's face on the inside, women everywhere would be disgusted by that kind of thing.

I'm tired of the resurgence in ridiculous vampire crap that this has caused.  Vampires, like unicorns, aren't real.  But the least you could do is stay true to the genre and myths surrounding the fakey fakeness, rather than turning a horror genre into a freakin' harlequiin romance.  Actually, it probably doesn't even quite hit harlequin.  It's more of a cross between sweet valley high and harlequin.  Because, you know, it's happening in HIGH SCHOOL.

    All hail moose.

It's just maddening that everyone seems so engulfed and you can't get away from it.

VOLVO has a friggen twilight commercial. You bet your sweet arse that a million little girls are going to want volvos for their 16th birthday because that's what Edward drove. Brilliance on behalf of volvo, Epic Fail on behalf of society.

Oh I love you guys. You each hit every point I've ever tried to make about Twilight to mostly deaf ears.

The books are TERRIBLY written. Just awful. I couldn't get past the first one. Bella is a weak, irritating character and Edward is just weird and creepy. He loves her because she's delicious? WTF? She loves him because he saves her life? Not buying it, sorry.

I can get into a book for sheer escapism purposes, but this book is just so terribly written that I can't even get into the story. Oh yeah, there is no real story! Just kids thinking they're the next Romeo and Juliet (which I also hated, but that's another story)

I do confess that I have the Twilight Romance Bath and Body Works hand lotion. It smells really good and I didn't initially connect it to the books, so now I'm kinda mad. =)
