Favors

a) I didn't realize until about 47 seconds ago that we had a favors board. Is that new or am I just not very observant?

b) One of the posts there is about using a USB drive as a favor. I think they wanted to upload some songs and pictures or something to it also. I'm not sure how I feel about that idea. Pragmatic, yes, but it seems a bit, I don't know, industrial to me.

c) What is the weirdest/dumbest/ugliest/worst favor you've ever seen?
Leo says hi. He's...special.

  • Those stupid pastel colored mints wrapped in tulle are the worst. Gee... thanks. Shouldn't have bothered. Good thing I haven't seen them in 10 years.

  • Charity favors.  A CD of songs - a couple of months ago.

You didn't ask, but my favorite was a jar of blackberry jam the bride and groom made with the MOB's help from blackberries her parents grew in their backyard.  In Alaska.

  • Unless I can drink it (think wine or champagne), or eat it during your abnormally long gap because you're a selfish fucking bride who doesn't care about her guests, I don't need it.

Thus concludes my thoughts on favors.

  • If I was having my reception in Vegas, I'd probably do a roll of nickels so they can play some slots. But we're having it at home. So M&Ms with my avatar picture probably (it's our go-to picture for stuff like that), and also M&Ms with our names.

I kinda hate goofy frames and stuff.

  • The dumbest favor I've seen is a miniature bell with a ribbon tied to it with the couple's wedding day printed on it. Woohoo.
  • I got a big ass framed photo of the couple once. I think we know how badly I hate posed, Olan Mills type pics, and the frame was bigger than ones I use for my own children. WTF? Everyone got one too. It wasn't like I won the sucky favor lottery or anything. I can't imagine how much that must have cost. Grandma Ethel was probably the only one who even wanted it.
  • A USB drive sounds nice.  Particularly if I can delete all the wedding crap off it and use it for my own things.

  • I actually think my original favors were kind of cheesy. I thought I HAD to have favors and ordered them before I really started wedding planning because they were a good deal. Since most of my friends out here are academics and love to read, I got pressed copper leaf-shaped bookmarks with a burgundy tassel for our fall wedding. They weren't personalized or anything. But even though they're cute, I don't think people would want to use that kind of bookmark, especially for textbook reading. So I added some bags of chocolate as a second favor to make up for it.

  • Just about anything that I have received from the typical "favors.com" type company have been stupid throw-aways:  pic frame, pic frame with couple, votive with couples initials (why would anyone want that?), mints.  It's all garbage.  Best ideas are diy or edible like a box of candies, cookies, wine, candle.
