So, I'd really love some honest, unbiased opinions on this situation.
My mother's fiftieth birthday is next Monday and my father is throwing her a big surprise party. Now, as much as I'd love to come, I work during the week. (They live in NY and I live in NC) I'm currently in training on my job, so we are not allowed any time off.
Since I have a work at home job, my brother suggested I just work from my parent's house. I explained I can't do that because there is software that the company has to install on the computers, so we can really only use the one we started with. He then suggested that I bring my computer (not a laptop, a big desktop computer) with me on the plane and set it up at my parent's house.
I'd really rather not do that. I mean, come on, who knows what could happen to it? Now my father and brother are both mad at me, saying I'm being selfish and am going to hurt my mother. I really want to be there, but don't you think it's a little unfair to expect me to lug my big ol computer tower with me and entrust it to checked baggage? I feel like no excuse for not going would be valid to them.
