Silly question

I know you are supposed to save the wedding presents until after the wedding to put them to use. Do you do the same for shower gifts, or is it ok to break into those?

Re: Silly question

  • I would wait.  If the wedding doesn't happen for some reason, the polite thing is to return shower gifts (as they are intended for the married couple).

  • Technically, you are supposed to wait until after the wedding to use shower gifts.

That being said, I TOTALLY used every one of our shower gifts before the wedding.  I figured if it didn't happen, I'd just buy a new pair of sheets and return those to the giver.
  • Agree with PPs.

Personally, we waited until after the wedding. We had space to store stuff still in their boxes, and by waiting it gave me a chance to see what we got and what we still needed. I ended up taking some stuff back because I felt like we needed something else more.
