We went to our apartment today to put our current furniture together- 2 dressers and a TV cabinet.  9 hours.  NINE HOURS we spent doing this, and neither of them are finished.  Apparently, ILVA (the store we bought these from) is not all about ease of putting together.  Much better quality, but DAMN.

Uggh.  Did they even have written instructions?  A lot of pieces now just come with really crappy illustrations.

Just the illustrations for every language.  But seriously, I was using wood glue (which they helpfully supplied), putting all the runners for the drawers in.  They had multiple holes for the runners, and the screws to hold them in went in different holes, and you had to magically figure out which holes worked and which didn't.  Jebus. 

H is putting together the TV cabinet, and the doors don't have pre-drilled holes!  We're going to have crooked doors on there now because he put them 2mm to the left and can't drill another hole now because the wood will be too weak.

Alright, dont buy furniture from ILVA, got it. My husband has trouble putting together furniture from ikea.

Do you have an ILVA, Nebb?  I wasn't sure they'd made it to the Americas just yet.  But christ on a stick it was tough.  And if your H has trouble putting Ikea together, you definitely don't want to try this stuff!

Wood glue and toothpicks. Laugh if you want, but it will work. Dip the toothpicks in the wood glue, jam them into the hole, and break them off as flat as you can. Sand them flat with an emory board. It is best if you have time to let the glue cure before redrilling. But if you are doing something like putting up a hinge and reusing the same hole, you can do it right away in a pinch.
