Invitation and RSVP card wording for + 1s

My guest list has several single people who I will be inviting wtih a + 1.  Many of them do not currently have a bf/gf, so I don't have a name to put on the invitation or RSVP.

How would I word the invitation envelope and the RSVP?

Each RSVP will have the name of the guest with accepts/declines checkbox beside their name.  I'm doing this so that I can give each guest a place card.

But for the + 1s... do I just leave a space blank for them to fill in the guests name (if they're bringing one)?  I would want them to put the name in so I could have a place card for the guest.  I'm also concerned that if they see their own name written with a blank spot below they may think that they are not invited with a guest.

Thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

  • Invitation envelope: Mr. John Smith and Guest

I would probably do the RSVP like this

    M________________  _ accepts  _ declines
    M________________  _ accepts  _ declines

Then they can fill in both their own name and their guest's name, and this would work for all your guests - you'd just have to change the number of lines depending on how many people the invite goes to.

I just printed mine last night like this. I put the invitee's name and then did a line of
    M___________________     ___accepts  ___ regrets  for the +1
    They look really good.

ETA: I don't like writing "and guest" on the invitation envelope, so I probably won't. It just looks weird to me. I think it will be evident by the blank space that they have a plus 1.

  • I am filling in the names, but since they are being printed by the invitation company they aren't customized, so I had a blank for each person and under it I wrote "name of guest."  I will fill in all the people who are invited by name by hand, and hope that people can figure out to fill the name of their guest in on the blank line.
