Knot Lingo (Poll-ish)

Dani's comment about MUD/beebee in the grinding gears thread made me wonder...

What are some Knot terms (abbreviations, words, jokes) that you feel have overstayed their welcome? Why?

What Knot terms do you think are here to stay forever?

Any new ones you'd like to debut?

Any that still confuse the bejeezus out of you?

  • What are some Knot terms (abbreviations, words, jokes) that you feel have overstayed their welcome? Wedding porn.  Why?  I hate it with every fiber of my being.

Its not a knot thing but whenever I see (sic) in an article I have no idea what it means. What does it mean?!?!

Im not overly bothered by any knot terms other than mud, I find its shouted way too early and by people who are clueless. I also hate the quick jump to conclusion about trolls or AE's. Not everything needs to be explained, just go with it!!!
  • I am glad the popping of the popcorn seems to be long gone.

I honestly had no idea MUD and beebee were considered old or dead. Just today some one asked what MUD meant.

I like 'edit' instead of 'eta' but that is far form a big deal, it just bugs me personally.
  • Nebb- (sic) means that the writer of the article is quoting some one who made an error and they want the readers to know the error was in the original quote, not in their writing.

I don't know where it comes from, probably something Latin, but (I'm pretty sure) it means there was a mistake/misspelling in the original quote/source and they quoter didn't fix it.

It means the word is spelled wrong---and when someone quotes them they use [sic] to indicated that this misspelling was because of the original author, and not them.

That's because some random newb used it in a post, so then it was commented on in the grinding gears thread, and then another random newb asked what it meant.

Seriously though, before this weekend, I haven't seen MUD used in ages.  And beebee.  They just seem like old terms to me.  I don't think any of us use them anymore.  That just MY opinion though, it's okay if others think they are still common terms and cool and fine.

    I also hate "wedding porn".

  • Yeah, I'd never heard of "wedding porn" until I came here, and have always been uncomfortable using it.

Nebb I agree, and think that the premature shouting of some words can make them seem tiresome.

*makes note to use "Edit" instead of ETA next time...

Hahah well thats funny then because I just recently saw (sic) in an article about justin beiber being mad about his people magazine picture, and there were a number of (sic)'s used throughout the article.

I feel the same about ETA - to me that is estimated time of arrival, I dont see how writing that is easier than edit.

  • I'm tired of

    "pretty princess day!!!"
    eleventy.  Used in any way.
Multiple punctuation.  Particularly if combined with words or numbers.
    snarky
canned answers without actually reading the posts.

My attention span is too short to answer the rest.

  • I do have to say that the use of 'sic' here just makes the user look arrogant.  If you're quoting someone, obviously they made the error, not you.  You don't need to highlight their mistake to make yourself look better.
  • Also, asking OPs if they feel sorry for our husbands is annoying.
