The Preserve @ Jordan Lake. Anyone heard of it?

Hi all.

I've been looking for a venue within about a half hours drive from RDU, we live in Raleigh and have a lot of guests flying in.

Our #1 requirement is that we can use in our own caterer!!

I would really like a country club setting and the closest I've found is The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club. It's west of Cary, though it's in Chapel Hill, it's a golf course/golf community.

Has anyone been to a wedding there, heard about it or seen their clubhouse?

Or if you know of another venue near by that permits outside catering let me know.

Thanks Smile

I have seen a couple wedding at Shady Wagon Farms. They have been beautiful. It is a place for an outdoor wedding. They have a list of recommeded vendors.

It is more of an outdoor county setting though.

Have you tried looking into the Ferrington House near Pittsboro. It's supposedly really pretty as well.

EDIT: Didn't realize The Ferrington House doesn't let you bring outside cateres. I will try to look for some other ones for you!

Thanks but Ferrington is way out of our budget. Even Shady Wagon is too high.

The Preserve has said that their rental fee is $1500 for the space, tables & chairs. And I've found a caterer that can do our entire wedding cocktail hour to cake for $60 per person including fees.

We'd be getting a great deal if our "base wedding price" comes in under $8,500. I just get the feeling that it's too good to be true. The setting I want at a price we can afford.... I'm expecting a catch somewhere and the fact that I can't find any pictures of the venue or anyone who has heard of it worries me.

I can understand that. I have seen plenty of beautiful weddings at The Matthews House in Cary, not a country club setting but a beautiful historical garden area to get married and a really nice reception area.

The Hall and Gardens at Landmark also look very pretty.  Its in Garner.

If you like something rustic. HetLandhius in Pittsboro I saw a wedding at one time. Don't know if they let you use outside caterers or not.

I think that is the hardest thing about living in a big city, things are so expensive. I am very fortunate to have some unique outdoors locations in my small town that is 45 minutes from Raleigh.

Let me know if there is anything else I can try to help you with. Good luck with the venue search!

I have a friend getting married at The Preserve, well she WAS getting married there.  She is getting married in September and has had The Preserve booked for a while and they called her Saturday and said they are now having a member event there on her wedding day so she is out of luck.  Luckily, they oversee another similar property said she could use that property.  She is okay with that, but I would be LIVID.  Just thought I would throw the little experience I have with them in.

oh my god, that is crazy. I would.... actually, I don't even know what I would do if they tried to tell me that. I'm sure visions of mass murder wouldn't be too farfetched.

I will make sure to cross out the section of the contract that allows them to bump my wedding before signing it because that's a deal breaker.    Unless the other location is closer to Raleigh... Do you know where they're moving her wedding?

Hey, I have been having a hard time finding a venue that I like that is in my budget, as well.  Do you have any more thoughts on The Preserve?  Also, where did you find your catorer?  Thanks and Congrats!!  :)

I'm going with Visions Catering. So far I've only been given sample menus but I like what I've heard. For about $17-20pp they give you what I think is a great amount and variety of food. Still waiting on the bar prices but the website says $16pp, 4 hour unlimited, which I think is great.

www.visionscatering.com/">http://www.visionscatering.com is their site. I haven't tried the food yet but I've seen really great reviews.

Thanks for the info.  If you go with The Preserve, are you going to have a dance?  I didn't see a dance floor.  Just trying to get some input because it has been so hard trying to find a venue.  Thanks:)  The Preserve is very pretty, I think you could do a lot with the deck, I just wanna be able to dance...

OK, I just saw the Preserve and I was very dissapointed.

The guy incharge told me over the phone that 200 people wouldn't be a problem.
and it wouldn't... if everyone stood cramped together. There's no room to dance, or for a dj, the ceremony space is an ugly putting green and he all of a sudden couldn't see how we wouldn't be able to bring in a caterer since he wasn't planning on giving up any space in the kitchen.

Visiting the Preserve was the low point of my seven venue tour.
