I'm tired of my new SN already. My confession is I used serving sets that I got from my bridal shower already. Yep 1 month before the wedding.
Posted by aleighk1
<div>I used some pots some 6 months before the wedding.   The family who gave it to us came to our house and was wondering why they were still sitting in a box 2 months after they send them.   I said we shouldn't use them before the wedding.  She said "that must be a Christian thing.  I don't know any Jews who do that?"  (she is Jewish).   </div><div>
</div><div>Well I don't know if it's Christian thing or not, but since they are the ones who gave it to us and they seemed offended it was still in a box.  We didn't think it was a bad to actually use them before the wedding.  We had a small place anyway and the box took up too much room.</div>

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

<div>Ours is piled up under the staircase. It's terrible and makes the house feel so messy. I confess that at the last minute I decided I NEEDED a videographer...and now I'm just dying to have one. </div>

<div>Jeebus.  They have to have an in person interview?  That's insane.</div>
• A friend of mine is Jewish and I told her I used them and she said you're not supposed to use it until after so I don't think it's a religious thing.
• ...you think that's insane?  I got a request for evidence once (I'm an immigration paralegal) for a client in the Philippines that asked for CRAZY evidence, stuff like statements from their parents attesting to their knowledge of the relationship and if the parents were no longer living, we had to send the PARENTS DEATH CERTIFICATE.  The govn't gets nuts.
• So which government decides if they can have the visa - is it ours or theirs?

Is the reason it's so hard that the US gov't thinks they're going to come and stay and doesn't want that or does the Phillippine government think they're going to leave and stay and doesn't what that?

I had no idea it was that hard to visit here.  Signed, Ignorant American
In Response to Re: confessions. : Depends on what country they are from.  Some countries participate in a visa exchange program, so Americans can enter their country and they can enter the US for a visit without a visa.  Most of Europe, Canada, etc.   Many countries do not, and you have to get a visa to travel into the US.  You get a different visa depending on the purpose of your travel. Some countries are very particular and you have to jump through hoops to prove that you have ties to your home country and aren't trying to remain illegally.  ETA: REMAIN, not enter.

The U.S. gov't decides -- and yeah, essecntially they think that they'll come on their visitor visa, let it expire and stay here illegally. And it's not entirely without precedent either -- that's exactly what some of his extended family did. I know it took years for his "cousin" to get it all squared away and become legal because she was a kid when she came here.

Note: I say cousin in quotes because everyone of his age is considered a cousin regardless of actual relationship -- I think she's FI's mom's cousin's daughter or something.

• My husband called a couple hours ago to tell me that his work had a round of layoffs and he was included. Fvck.  We're ok money-wise, he's getting a good severence, but we'll lose the awesome health insurance and the next job is no guarantee the insurance will be as good.  Oh well. We'll be fine, we always are. It is just a sucky way to start the week.

I was talking to my friend who is Chinese and getting married soon.  She said China requires that you get a formal invitation to an event in order to leave the country.

It's crazy the hoops goverment makes you jump through.
Sorry to hear that Bubba. I hope he finds an awesome job with great insurance soon! I've been looking at dogs to adopt for way too long today. I think the only way H would agree to another dog would be if I just brought one home and told him to deal with it. Which I won't do.
Posted by rachers1017
<div>That's about what FBIL did to FMIL. "Mom, what would you do if I got a dog" FMIL said something along the lines of I won't hate it but they are a lot of work and I'm not taking care of another dog. The next day he came home with a husky pup. </div><div>
</div><div>I wish our landlord would let us have pets. I mean, we haven't really asked because we need to not have extra responsibilities right now but damn, I want a dog. </div>
• Bubs, that sucks.  Hopefully the next job will have good health insurance too.
• 2 days ago I made my sister a cake for her 10th birthday. The leftovers were in mt refrigerator and they caught my eye today. I think I took like 10 bites and then said S&*^ what the heck did I just do? And.... I just came back from the gym!
• Bubbs - so sorry to hear that.  You say next job like he has something lined up already?  Keep your chin up.  You guys'll deal.
• My confession is that I actually like sleeping by myself.  Fi and I are celibate until we get married for religious reasons but living together for financial reasons.  He sleeps on the couch while I sleep in our king sized bed and I actually enjoy not having him grab me in a bear hug in the middle of the night or throw one of his big legs over me.  I love to cuddle, but when it's time to sleep I want him on his side and me on mine.
• I started tearing up at work when H texted me that he won't be home for dinner. I'm new so I freaked out that someone might see so then it got even worse!  It's finals so I haven't seen him much the past 10 days.  The project is due tomorrow so I'll get him back soon but this stuff just reinforces the fact that I can't swing by my parents' for dinner, or go out w/ a friend, etc.

Not so sad (but gross) confessions:
I've been using oil blotting sheets and I love to examine the sheet after. I do it with pore strips too.

I realized I haven't washed my car since I got here...in October. I used to wash it every 2 weeks like clockwork. I guess the rain has kept it clean enough that I just keep forgetting.

• Sorry, Bubba.  That sucks.  I hope he finds something even better very soon.

But do you put a piece of white paper or tissue under it so there's better contrast? LOL.

• Every so often I mix in some wet dog food with the dry food for Rufus, as a treat. Every time, the wet food smells so appetizing. I've never gone so far as to try it, but that's not to say I haven't been tempted. It just smells so yummy.

• Sorry I disappeared for a bit there. H doesn't actually have a new job lined up, but he has friends that have been trying to get him to come work for their companies. Our industry is very much a "who you know" one when it comes to hiring, so it's a good thing. :)
