What is your deal? It is common to check peoples profiles...
  • And yes she said she is married. I mean come on. If someone is in that horrible situation of possibly losing their home WHY would anyone make those comments?

Skippy don't mind those comments. I hope everything works out for you. I know how hard things can be. Been there.
  • Pretty sure she took no offense to it and realized it was a misunderstanding. Over react much?

Depends on the reason. Being nosey and then posting something about someone that has nothing to do with this topic is not good reason. Just like posting other people's past posts to embarrass and humiliate them for a good laugh isn't a good reason either. But some here are famous for that.

Sticking to the topic of the post would be a much better thing to do. Not personally attack people going through hard times.

    Spell check?

    You learn something new everyday.

I would have just thought that the $18 was a really odd denomination to give as a gift. But, I really don't know anything about Jewish customs. Interesting.

  • Maybe she's just not as verbal as some of us. I hope you're right on this one.
  • I agree Mags. I think this is a very interesting thing to know. It is kind of humerous though to those of us that didn't know about the custom.

I personally think it was a sweet gesture especially considering they hadn't met the bride.

You were complaining about how you were treated so I brought up the thread so people could see what you were talking about. It is a public, easy thing to find. No big deal, IMO.
  • Re Jenni Adams:  "To the OP its not the 18 dollars that's throwing me, i'm a completely random person so I like to give random amounts to throw people off :D but its the 'have a nice life' that i don't get. I mean they were probably meaning it in a nice way but it seems they could have worded it better"

In Judaismi 18 is the number associated with the letter "chai" which means life in english.  So when they wrote "have a nice life" it probably wasn't in a sarcastic way, but more like saying "here's a little something to start your life together."

There's a good chance that the couple sent the $18 as just a token and another present from them is in the mail.  I'd check with FI's parents to find out more about the couple before you dismiss them as rude.

LOL I need to be more detail oriented. At least I'm "intertaining".
  • Re Parker624 that's an interesting tidbit of information to know Smile I'm not jewish but I did take a religion class a couple of years ago but we never touched on that, i'll have to store that information as it may come in handy for the future so thank you Laughing I figured that it wasn't sarcastic and was meant in a 'i hope you guys start a great new life together' kind of way but due to my sarcastic/snippy personality whenever I see that it automatically has the ring of a snarky tone to it, which again is just how I percieve things. It's interesting how we can see the same thing but interpret it all different way ( I love watching people and how the respond to things which is why lurking here is so interesting)

OP I'd definately check with Fi's parents before making any judgements about them
  • My fiance and I decided to wait and discuss this after the wedding with the parents.  Don't want to create any tension between them.  My mother-in-law would have mentioned if they were sending us something else.
