The newbie Flow Chart

I used to be someone else...cakegirl.73- but I was concerned because my sign- in was my email..yes I wasn't so bright when signing up. I've now changed it to reflect the change in wedding plans.

My question is more of a guide line for other noobs..how do we go about being on the right side of the flow chart, and not the FFF side? If I post on a regular's post..its seen as aw, if I don't I'll always be a noob. Its a no win. Legitimate  question, I've seen many come and go with hurt feelings. You ladies are really fun to follow..so I don't want to step on any toes.  Please feel free to FFF this if you must. I'm simply looking for direction from you all knowing knotties.

  • Well... a post like this kind of puts you on the FFF side of the chart, if you must know. Just be you. If you're an idiot, you'll get flamed. If you're a regular, occasionally funny, doesn't take it too seriously kind of person, you'll get on - it's really not rocket science or anything anyone with two brain cells couldn't figure out on their own.

  • Just act like you would in real life. Are you going to go up to a group of strangers that you've been eavesdropping on and suddenly chime in on every inside joke? No, that's weird. Don't do it on the internet either. But if you have something to contribute to the conversation going on next to you in class or the office lunchroom or wherever, you probably would speak up, right? Do that.

Or at least, that's kind of how I did it. And then I started having more opinions on things because I was following more discussions, and people starting talking to me as well, and now I feel comfortable here. As far as I'm aware, I haven't caught too much flack for it.
  • Well, no one's said they've found me particularly annoying so far. I just lurked for a couple months, posted here and there, and slowly posting more and more as I get a feel for the dynamics around here.

Mostly, I find intro threads kind of annoying, being brand new and immediately posting 500 times a day annoying, that kind of thing, so I tried to avoid that. I'm just here to waste time.

Haha, well I didn't say I've never gotten flack for anything. Just not for being a newbie. I can't help it if you give me flack for your poor reading comprehension skills!  :)

PS. Did you know it's not in fact spelled lizaminelli?
  • Is it not? Hmm... does it have more "m"s in it maybe? You've got me.
    image
  • Oh no, I just meant lizaminelli's screenname. Which she called you out on not being able to read. Because clearly THAT was the issue and not everyone giving her a little nickname.
  • God. My reading comprehension goes rightoutthedamnwindow when it's you and me.

    I disagree.

Sure, if you jump into a thread where no one has the slightest clue who you are, call everyone by familiar nicknames (I don't mean by their screen names; I mean "Twilix" or "Fishy" instead of Alixza or Fische) and claim dibs on four or five "sisterwives," then regs might be taken aback.  But if you make intelligent conversation in active threads, then people will start to notice you and respond positively.  That's just basic social skills, though.

It makes me feel special :)

And with that, I'm off for the weekend! Happy Friday!
  • I get all distracted because we're basically sisterwives with our dresses and schit. And I like eye-raping your  sig pic.
    image
  • I don't think jumping on a reg's post makes you an AW.  But I think newbs are trying too hard when all they do is agree with regs to try and fit in.  If you have an opinion, say it.  Not that you won't often agree with people, but theres a certain poster I can think of who I'm really convinced only says what the regs say.

Also, please don't preface every post with "I know I might get flamed for this."

    And yes, get a sig.

  • And, when you do get flamed (because, let's face it, everyone does), this is how you should handle it:

People may think you're annoying.  People may call you out on it.  The best thing to do is to ignore it and keep posting.  The people that don't like you will ignore you.  The others will respond.  Maybe you'll change some poster's opinions about you, for the better or the worse.  Everything ebbs and flows here.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

[QUOTE]Also, whatever you do decide to say on a subject, stick to your guns, and be open to debate and other opinions.  A sure fire way to get on everyones bad side is to start changing your story when people disagree with you, or starting to call everyone evil bitches and whatever else we've all been called before.  Also, ditto what tide just said.  i consider myself a reg, and there are other regs I rarely interact with.  Don't worry if you're not everyones friends, or if not everyone likes you.

Yeah, I've been hanging around here since 2008.  That is my second Oktoberfest picture that I've had up.  I think most people around here know me for my first one.

And of course my kickworm picture.
