Dance with mom

Sorry that last post reminded me of a question I had yesterday...

My mom raised me as a single parent so she is going to walk me down the aisle but is it okay to have a mother daughter dance?

  • I wouldn't see anything wrong with that. What song are you thinking of using?
  • Yup.  But, talk to her about it.  She might not want to or might find it odd.  But, it's fine to do if you all want to.

  • whatever you two want to do would be fine, but personally, I would probably just choose her favorite song and have the DJ make an announcement that this is you and your mom's favorite song and invite everyone to the dance floor or something similar.

  • Actually we were both unsure about it. It was kinda funny. I was like "So are we going to have a mother/daughter dance." And my mom said, "Sure, let's do a tango!"

But anyways, we are seriously thinking about it. We are so close. And why should my FH and his mom have all the fun? I just wanted some input.

As to the song, i'm not sure..anyone have any suggestions?

  • To Vallyhoo,

Hey that's a good idea too! Thanks!

  • I agree with vally, and I'd play "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".
  • My BF danced to "I hope you dance" with her mother and it was really sweet.
  • I'm also dancing with my mom. We're doing Ain't No Mountain High Enough. I'm not sure if that's your style though.
Maybe there's a song you grew up with or one that reminds you of her.

I think you should tango.  I think that would be awesome!

It sounds like you and your mom have a great relationship and can be goofy together.  Why not celebrate it?  -- You can always start with it and then break into just moving around the floor if it got weird.

ETA: I'm doing the dance with my dad, but sometime during the reception I'm going to have the band play a medley of my mom's favorite disco songs and announce that it's dedicated to her.  At my sister's wedding she requested "It's raining men" as an inside joke, so that's going to be part of the medley.

  • The tango sounds like awesome fun!

For my DD's wedding, the parent dances were "Isn't she lovely" by Stevie Wonder, and "Days like this" by Van Morrison.
  • i'm dancing with my mom to "i got it from my mama" by wil.i.am

my mom loves the idea and she's looking forward to it, should be good for a laugh
