Tipping percentages for vendors

Hi-- Just wondering what is appropriate for tipping the day of the wedding.... obviously H&M I understand, but what about the following?

Photographer? If we did the typical 20%, we would be giving a HUGE tip...?

Florist?

DJ?

Trolley driver?

Wedding coordinator?

Wait staff?? The manager at the venue actually told us it was not necessary and rare that the waitstaff are tipped...? Is this true?? What about the bartenders? We are having an open bar....

Honestly, I find that knot guide more than a bit cheap.

The photographer should be tipped 1/2 day of, the other half when you get the final product, if you are pleased.

The 15 - 20% added to the contract for tips doesn't always go directly to the wait staff or bartenders.  As the veunue coordinator how they distribute.
  • Ootmother, if you don't mind me asking, how much do you think is a good tip for a photographer, videographer, dj, etc? I was thinking maybe $100 per person but I really have no clue.

I think that's fine.  Unless you're paying $5,000+ for them, that is

[QUOTE]In Response to Tipping percentages for vendors : No offense to you but I find it rather repulsing when people try to figure out what is "normal" tipping. Tips are meant for superior service not just because someone provided a service and you feel the need to "tip" them because people say you should. I don't think anyone deserves a tip unless they go above and beyond their normal duties. If you disagree I'd suggest you look up the definition of tipping.

A lot of people depend on tips as the main source of their income.  Of course I hope that they provide fantastic service, but I'd still tip a mediocre waiter.

Oh, and I'd never make my wedding guests stand through a ceremony for the sake of having it on the beach.
  • Wow..... "repulsing" is a pretty strong word relating to someone asking a question....
