Can one throw their own graduation party?
Can you host it with your FI if you're the graduate?
Or should the FI be the only host?
I want to celebrate my accomplishment, frankly no one other than my FI is going to help. This engineering Master's took me 5 years to complete as I had no engineering previously. I did this while supporting myself, living alone, working full time, keeping up a house/yard/dog (her name is Gina), went through a divorce in 2007, got engaged, sold said house, moved, paid off all my student loan debt completely, and now I'm getting ready to defend in 3 weeks. This is a pretty big deal.
I'd like to invite friends over, provide food (not a sit down meal, more of an open house), provide drinks. I don't want anyone to bring anything, although I never heard of anyone giving an adult graduate gifts anyway.
So, is it OK do to this? Just call FI the host? If it is wrong, then how the heck do other people have graduation parties? Just have a party and don't call it a graduation party?
