VIKINGS FANS

I hate you.  I really do.  I want to start studying and I can't because all I can hear is your stupid tailgate parties.

SHUT UP.

How is your Sunday morning going ladies?

  • Hi! My morning is going pretty well. Did a little laundry. Let a brisket cook in the crock pot all night and am about to have lunch as soon as it's kosher to start eating barbecue, which isn't for another 30 minutes or so.

  • Hey Andy, where were you last night?  Actually, where were all of you last night?  It was pretty quiet here, and I ended up getting in an agrument over social problems of changing a womans last name when married.

I am enjoying my last day of shoving my face today.  I think I'm making myself mimosas for the morning football games too.

  • I just read a thread where tencups said she didn't respect the choice to take your husbands name. Weird.

  • How ya doing, Dnb? I saw you got to skype with the dude yesterday!

I was out with my inlaws and then scott and I went to the winery for a bottle of wine and dessert. Yay.

  • I'm good Fishy thanks.  Yeah we were able to skpe almost all day yesterday which was great.  He's almost half a day ahead of me though time wise, so it was overnight for him, but it was great.  Now I don't know when I'll hear from him again.  Hopefully soon to know he got there okay.

Yeah that thread was very frustrating.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Oh good grief. That's really productive for women: being criticized by other women for making a decision you're comfortable with. What a close-minded, asinine opinion.
    image
Whatever you hatters be hattin. -Tay Prince
  • Right, LC?

And granted, I get a little annoyed when things are addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Scott Lastname, but to go as far to say that you don't respect people who take their husbands last name? Ridiculous. And being a liberal intellectual doesn't make her opinion any more valid. She'll need a ladder or two to get off of that horse she's on.

  • Yeah. I just asked what, specifically she didn't respect about women who change their names. I actually am REALLY eager to see what exactly it is that's so terrible about it. I'm touchy about this subject, I guess. My mom didn't change her name (either time she got married) and I always assumed I wouldn't either. My last name is a big part of who I am. I feel very tied to it. But my mom put it like this "If it had been a big deal to your dad, I would have changed it. But he didn't care." FI does care. We talked about it, I mulled it over for a while, and decided I'd change it. Symbolic of starting a new family and all that. I guess I'm just taking personal offense to it because it's such an immature attitude to have. I had that attitude when I was about 17, and in a militant feminist phase.

  • Call me crazy, but I think a big part of feminism is having the ability to have a CHOICE about what we do.

Really? Really? Jesus. I know having kids is serious business, but damn, parents need to step back and stop taking things so personally. I fear that the upcoming generation will have no sense of humor about anything, ever.

While we're on the subject of entitled parents/kids, have you seen that Toyota commercial with the kid complaining about the station wagon? It infuriates me every time I see it.

But Fishy, she does respect the fact that women have the right to make that choice.  She just doesn't respect the individuals that actually choose to take their husband's name.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />

  • I agree with all of the above.  Especially the intense SVU part.  But I got sidetracked by TK, and I just got an email from H letting me know he got on the ship okay so I'm thrilled right now.

Yeah that thread was ridiculous last night.  So was the poster who chimed in this morning about personal registers and whatnot.

I had always assumed I would take my H's name when I got married.  I know my name is my name, but I don't think its the only thing that identifies me.  It was important to my H for me to take his name, and I was fine with that.  Also, teaching in inner city schools and seeing the vast majority of students with different parents, different last names, etc., I truly think it is much easier on the kids when the parents have the same name.

YES! It's not the kid, but what the kid is saying. I just can't imagine how awful it is as a parent to have your kid complaining about your ride for purely cosmetic reasons. Toyota is trying to guilt parents into buying their stupid SUV. I resent being marketed at. Makes me wanna bust out the ole "I had to walk 12 miles to school with no shoes in the snow, uphill both ways," thing to that kid.

It is. Half my teachers thought my parents were divorced because my mom didn't have my last name. A quarter thought I was just illegitimate. The other quarter thought my mom was an uppity bitch for not changing it.

I get what your saying, but I find the commercials very funny.  But they are using vehicles that are like 20 years old.  And my dad had that wood paneled mini-van at one point, in maroon, which makes it even funnier to me.

  • Howdy Fishy!  I'm feeling great, actually.  Other than some weird food cravings, I haven't had any real "pregnancy" symptoms at all.  And, now our ship's here (2 hours late) so I guess I have to go do some real work.

    See ya!

Yeah, and we would get several siblings all with different last names that made it even harder.

I'm just most bothered that she thinks less of women that choose to take their H's name.  I think opinions like that do more damage to any and all progress women make than many things men do.

  • My family all thought I would keep my name. They were surprised I didn't, but I just think it'll be easier. If I wasn't so attached to my middle name, I would have moved my last to my middle, but I didn't want seventy billion names either.

Yeah I love my middle name too much to part with it too. I'll be LCmarriedname. Then I'm going to get my maiden name tattooed on me so that way it'll always (literally) be a part of me.
