Ring Sizing Bumps

I have an appointment this weekend to have sizing bumps put in my e-ring.  I'm nervous about this. In the colder months, when my fingers shrink, my ring will move around on my finder a lot, but in hotter months, when my hands swell, it seems to fit fine.  However, in general, my ring is a bit top heavy.  I don't want to get my ring re-sized, so my jeweler suggested I add sizing bead.  I've worn my for nearly a year like this, so I am wondering if I should just cancel the appointment.  I have seen them in only one other ring before, so I don't know a lot about them.

I was wondering if any of you have sizing bumps in your e-rings.  If so, are they comfortable?  Would you suggest getting them?  Do you know if they remove the diamond to add them?  I've heard horror stories about diamonds being swapped.  Granted, they're probably not true stories, but they make me nervous, nonetheless.

I don't have them but I've heard a lot of people on the international boards here say they love theirs.

There shouldn't be any reason to remove the diamond, unless your design makes it too awkward to add the bumps.  If you're concerned, ask your jeweler.  Where have you heard these horror stories?  Are they specific to your jeweler?

Thanks for the info.  I am most worried about them being uncomfortable.

No, they aren't specific to my jewelers. You know how people spread things by word of mouth.  I know they are exaggerated and are told for the shock value.  I think when you're already nervous about something, stories like that can make it that much worse.

if you're not comfortable, don't do it. i have the same problem- whenver it's hot outside or i'm hot (such as working out, etc.), my hands swell SIGNFICANTLY, but when it's cold, my ring slides around, also top heavy because my largest stone is smack in the middle on the top. anyways, i've toyed with having it resized, but not worth it to me.

    GL!!

My fingers swell up and down all the time, and I just deal with the ring moving around, but I have never heard of these bump things.

As far as the diamond-swapping, do you know if your diamond has a serial number printed on it?  Mine is from Jareds and there is a microscopic number printed on the diamond that can only be read under the jeweler's scope.  Every time I drop my ring off and go to pick it up, I ask to see the number to be sure its the same (that is the point of the number).  Maybe yours has that?

I think I may cancel the appointment, because my hands severly swell in warm weather or when I get hot. I feel like getting the bumps couldl be winter solution only.  I've never had a close call with having it slip off, but it does come off easily when I remove it.

I don't believe my ring has a cereal number, but they do take the specs of the ring before you leave.  Clearly, I'm a sucker for a "worse case scenario" story.

My mom has them in her ring and says it takes a few days to get used to, but they're not uncomfortable.

I have my grandma's ring and it is huge but I don't know yet if I want to resize it or reset the stone.  I got these things called ring snuggies (i think that's what they are called) at walmart in the jewelry section.  I don't know if your's is that loose that they would benefit you but you can pop it off in the summer and put it back on in the winter! Just a thought.

They can be kind of bulky, the ring snuggies, but you get used to it.
