Is there a night thread?

Re: Is there a night thread?

  • I think I lie well, so I usually do ok in interviews. I'm not sure if this is a positive statement about myself or not.

  • Avs, I have a lot of experience in my future field through internships and stuff but I'm still nervous about applying for a big girl job. At least I still have a year before I have to start applying.
  • Ciara, that is awesome.

MK, you are so ridiculously great. Now get on that shiit or I will eat it for you.
  • A grocery store is a grown up job. Well, for the most part. :) Except when your friends (coworkers) turn on you because one of them got a divorce and you stayed friends with the ex. Then it becomes like HS all over again.

[QUOTE]I really hate going for interviews. I'm also not looking forward to applying to "grown up" jobs. I graduate in June and I really don't see how me waitressing, making pizzas or working in grocery stores is going to get me a government job. The guy I talked to at the career fair told me that experience isn't necessary but I'm having a hard time believing that.

I always say I learned a stong sense of urgency and consolidation (multi-tasking) from waiting tables. And you deal well with stressful situations under pressure.

I prefer to think of it as sugar-coating, as opposed to lying.

I got the first grown up job I applied for.  I have minimal interviewing skills, for that reason.  I am deathly afraid of leaving my job, like ever. STUPID JOB.
  • I hated the drama of HS. Why does divorce turn 30-60 something year old women into HSers again who turn on people they have been friends with for years.

  • Okay, teen mom is over so it's bed time. Night!
  • Mk - willpower. you haz it. Gimme some.

I always have that "what if this job is worse than the one i'm in now?!?!" feeling. I love what I do right now, surprisingly, but I do NOT enjoy the drama that comes with my boss. she's not as smart as she thinks she is and when she tries to convince me I'm wrong (when I'm not) I get pissed.
  • Night Aleigh, feel better!

    Goodnight, Aleigh!

Raypop - I love the new sig!
  • I guess I'm in the minority that loved HS. There were over 2400 kids at my 11th and 12th grade school, so no one new eachother well enough for drama. I had a blast.

  • Thanks Meg! My handsome big brother :)

  • Oh no, Ciara I didn't mean they weren't grown up jobs. I just really hated working in them. Actually, I hated working at Safeway. I liked the one I worked in throughout high school but they closed.

  • I was a complete and total nerd and loser in middle school and high school.  Mostly, it didn't bother me because I had activities I was in to.  But I still wish I had realized how much better life would get.  Would have made some ish easier.
  • Remember back in September when you all were trying to help me when I was saying my friends didn't want to hang out anymore. It turns out that it was because of my friend C's divorce and the fact that I stayed friends with her exh V who evidently royally screwed her financially and not because of me talking to much about Edmund or my depression.

Okay enough of that back to happier things. Edmund and the cats are currently all napping in their respective places in the living room and H is asleep in the bedroom so I am finally getting a little peace and quiet!

  • I once had an interview where (my eventual boss) asked me how to spell mayonnaise and what 10% of 300 was. I got the first one wrong (but I'll never forget now how to spell it) and the 2nd one right. I thought I bombed that interview, but landed the job two days later. That was my first "big girl" job after college. Before that I was a banquet captain. Although, now that I think about it, banquet captains/banquet servers probably make more money than I do now. Should have rethought that job move.

  • C - yay for peace and quiet.  Any chance you can pour yourself some wine?
  • Avs it's okay. I work for Safeway currently. I like it most of the time but lately there is just so much drama.

  • MK, some interviewers ask some weird stuff.

And I wont lie, I make significantly more waiting tables than I did at my big girl job. What I make is so dependent on my attitude. I like that control.

  • I was just thinking about pouring a glass, but I don't have any. I have lots of liqour though but really don't want any of that so I will just stick with my iced tea.

  • I got asked in a job interview last year what my thoughts were on the health reform legislation passed in 2010.  Then the interviewer made it clear she hated it and thought it was government in our private business and on and on.

At which point, I felt like: why did you even ask me?  You clearly have an opinion. It seemed really unprofessional.   I kind of hemmed and hawed and somehow got an offer there (that I didn't accept).
  • Oh, and you guys make me sound likea machine with the willpower. I've had a rough two months which resulted in a 4lb gain on the scale last week. I had a verbal come to jesus talk with the counselor, so I'm trying to get back on track. I wish I was awesome all the time, but I have my moments.

  • No, you're awesome all the time MK :)

I worked in produce at Safeway. Worst job ever. Putting veggies and fruit out for 8 hours is mind numbingly boring. Also the constant "smile even when no ones around!!!!" thing bugged me. They also had a bad habit of scheduling me for when I had class.

I made a lot of money waitressing and bartending. More than I did at any other job. Huzza for tips.

  • AVS, I don't think I know much about you. Please tell. Where are you from? What is your wedding going to be like? Do you have a dress?

  • I run the self checkout or check most of the time. Some days are okay and others are crappy.
