Salt's AW post got me thinking...

My wedding is a week after Salts---and if anyone remembers my dress drama from this summer, the bridal shop had to reorder my gown because 1. they lied about the size, and 2. Cut all the tags out of it, and 3. Cut a piece of the dress off as a fabric sample when a fabric sample was already stapled to the ripped up tags on the dress.

The owner told me in August she's rush order the dress---specifically told us she'd tell the designer the wedding is in January, in order to assure us the dress would be in no later than November. Well, November is all but over, and I have no dress. Everytime I called to get an estimated delivery date, no one could give me an answer. Rich and I ended up showing up in person, and still no one could give us an answer---so I called and called until I was finally told the ship date would be "January 9th"

Granted, I don't get married until March 7th, but that gives me less than two months for alterations. Not to mention, I need the dress two weeks prior to the wedding to have it shipped out to Vegas to be pressed--(enough time for packing and shipping).

Should I be concerned? Rich called today, but of course the have yet to call back.

Why do you plan to pack and ship the dress? Most airlines will let you carry it on. That's what I'm doing.

I'd be absolutely terrified of it getting lost or damaged in shipment.

Two months is plenty of time for the alterations. I'd be more worried that they will push back the delivery date again.

I think you will probably be ok on alterations. I started mine on the early end and the whole process seems like it is going to be so easy (as long as you don't need anything heavy duty done to it, you should be ok). They BETTER get it to you by then though, if not earlier. If I were you, I'd be going on a rampage in the store right about now.

I can't get over the ridiculousness of this situation. Definitely take it somewhere else for the alterations.

Dress = huge. I highly doubt I'd get in passed as a carry-on.

It'll have to go elsewhere for alterations because this places makes me so stabby it's not even funny!!!

I think its rather suspect that they didnt have a ship date for so long. I would be demanding order numbers and phone numbers to call and follow up. If you remember what happened with thesun her dress hadnt even been ORDERED yet when she started drilling the shop owner. Im a doom and gloom type of person but I would want some kind of certainty that Jan 9th was  100% for certain somehow. After all the shiit theyve put you through, cover your bases.

Nebb, I'm a gloom and doom kinda person too--especially with this place. I'm afraid this is all to close to thesun's problems...I doubt they ordered it when they said they did. I'm just freaking out.

Whit--it will need hemmed and bustled for sure. When she reordered the dress, she ordered it in a 6 rather than the 8 it was originally ordered in because I had lost weight at that point---and I was at about 125 lbs. I'm down to 115, so I think a 6 will be big on me now, so I'll need it taken in for sure. I'm just fearful it will all either take too long, or I'll have to pay out the asss to get it done on time. I just wish I could take my good old sweet time with it....

Id be freaking out too. I would seriously demand the owner provide documentation of the order date, confirmed shipping date, and any other information to go along with the order. I would raise hell.

Rach, if you contact the airlines ahead of time they may permit you to carry it on.  There's generally a section for the first class passengers where they store coats, they should be able to do this for your wedding dress so long as it's stored in one of those heavy plastic bags.  They may charge you for it, but it *should* be an option that's available to you.

Rach, that dress is just perfect for you. I'm with Nebb; I'd be in there demanding to see proof that it has been ordered, phone numbers for the manufacturer, etc.

I hate to echo the above, but this run around sounds like what I went through with my gown... and if I could do it again, I would demand a refund asap and start shopping then, rather than trusting her, have it run so close to the day and then have to deal with the stress of legal issues to recover my deposit (I mean, granted, you still may have to do that, but at least you've got enough time to find a new gown and your wedding isn't 10 days away! ;P).

(I also echo the above that you need evidence it has been ordered. I suspect they're going to say there was a problem with ordering at the last minute and give you the dress they initially provided in the wrong size as the 'alternative').
