Her H is in Suffolk this week for work so she's coming down to hang out with him. We talked about getting together on Friday. They're staying out in Suffolk so I was going to find something to do out there as she's carless. We'd love it if you could join us then, but I think I remember you saying something about your mom visiting this week.

Otherwise you and I can definitely plan something for before I move. Andplusalso since I'm not working right now, after I move, it could be fun to meet in Williamsburg at the Outlet Mall if you're game. That would be kind of midway for the both of us from my new place.

Thanks Ski!  I really don't think it's anything that amazing though, we all do what we need to do, and I'm sure there are way more people out there who could do it when faced with the situation than they think.

MK that would be great!  Hopefully things work out on Friday then.  My shipment is coming tomorrow (yay, the driver just called!) so I will have a busy week between my house and my friend's, but we should definitely be able to figure something out!

Good morning!

Sorry for the housing issues Stacks and others (sorry, I can't remember who else was talking about it). I hope it all works out for everyone.

I scored some free ribbon (on vases and leftover) from the at home reception we were at Saturday so I'm pretty happy about that. They conviently used the same exact color blue we are and we were already borrowing the vases they used, as they were originally my cousin's vases.

Superbowl - I've been going to the same party for most of my life. The "adults" hang out in one room and the "kids" hang out in the other room. We like to mess with them because the TV they have has a delay. Good food, good drinks, good times.

Cfas, I had problems adopting a cat too. When I got Penny I had a small place and only wanted one cat and it took me FOREVER to find a place that didn't require you to adopt cats in pairs. I understand that cats are happier with friends (and now we have a bigger place so we got a second cat) but I think they would be happier alone with a home than in a shelter.

We also had to promise to never de-claw or ever put them outside. I don't think we would ever consider de-clawing anyway, but if we ever have a yard the cats will probably go outside sometimes. I plan on having them for 20 years, I think that there's a possibility of me living somewhere cats can hang out outside within the next 20 years.

While I do believe in background checks for animal adoptions, Cfas, I think they're taking it a bit too far.  You can't sit around complaining about how nobody is adopting animals if you're not willing to let them go to perfectly good homes.  That's really sad.

Cfas- I actually just read a book on my flight at  Christmas called "You had me at Woof," and it was all about a woman who fostered and helped with a Boston Terrier Rescue.  Not gonna lie, I downloaded it because I saw it in the airport book store with a Boston on the cover and that made me want to read it.  But I was really surprised at how much investigation and work went into adopting a rescue.  I'm all for making sure pets have good homes, but they are scaring away good people like you in the process.  Our newer dog was a rescue, but we got her from someone else after they got her from a rescue.  My friend that i moved here with was just looking into getting a dog from the SPCA here but they won't let her adopt since she doesn't have a VA address on her ilcense.  It's insane!

Cfas, I find that ridiculous too.  I realize there are sick people out there who may abuse the adoption process, but this seriously prevents abled people to do it.

I've always had crazy applications to fill out when adopting rescue dogs. I have never had them do an at home visit. They always say the reserve the right to do that, but no one ever has.

I thought those applications were bad until we just went through the application process with this apartment we're getting. Now that was ridiculous.

They made me fill out a completely separate application. The wanted prrof of my unemployment claims and wanted previous job history, even though Lucas makes well over the minimum income requirement for this complex. What if I didn't work? What if I never worked? It seemed silly to go through all these hoops when he's got the income, and proof of it, that we can afford this place.

Cfas, I have had trouble adpoting cats. It was so hard. After everything, they wanted me to come back so they could interview my daughter. I could understand wanted to see if she is good with pets, which she is, but it was ridiculous. We just gave up. The process was too frustrating. Another time it was an all day process 9am until 5pm of interviews and paperwork. They have so many requirements. Rachers, I drowned my phone too. Thank God I have a back up.

Cfas - I agree, some of the restrictions are ridiculous.  I remember there being a lot of hassle to get a cat when I first wanted to get one, 15 years ago.  I didn't even bother going forward with it, I instead found someone giving away kittens from their home.  A friend of mine did do it and the home visits and scrutinization was crazy.

anyone here been to the top of the Eiffel Tower?  Any time that's better than another?  I just looked at the website (FI finally agreed to go to the top with me, yay!) and found out that nearly all the days are completely booked except for at 5:30 or 8pm, or most of the day on Saturday is free.  I would have thought Saturday would book up faster than weekdays, but maybe they're all school groups?

Oh lord. The cat rescues here are insane too!  My friend adopted two cats, and when she went to get their second round of shots, she was told that she was late. The rescue organization had given her the wrong information. When she called them to get the correct stuff, she was told that she was clearly being irresponsible and they threatened to remove the cats from her home.

Mothawhaaa? She was devastated. She worries about these cats like they are her babies, and was terrified that they could be taken away from her at any time just because.

I have not been to the top of the Eiffel tower, but I wouldn't go at 8 since it will probably be dark (if you're going right after your wedding). At 5:30 you might be able to see the sunset/twilight and that could be nice. I went up to the top of the Campanile in Florence around that time and it was really pretty.

I've never heard of the buy one get deal for cats.  To me, it sounds almost like ploy to force people to adopt more cats.  I wish we could have a pet right now.  I'd love a dog.  Adopting is always great, but I need a hypo allergenic for my allergies so I don't know if it would be possible.

I never had to do a song-and-dance about adopting our cats.  One of them I rescued from wandering the streets, and the other was abandoned at my apartment by my stupid and flaky ex-roommate when he realized you have to actually *gasp* pay vet bills, have cats spayed, and de-worm them.  Moron.

I have totally been to the top of the Eiffel Tower. It's amazing. We didn't even have reservations or anything but we had to wait in line for a while. Totally worth it. It was still daylight when we went up, but not long before the sun went down. I enjoyed my view.

We wound up staying around long enough to see them light it up twice. That was awesome. If you haven't seen that, go far enough away to where you can see the whole thing. It's gorgeous.

OH yes! It was nuts. They also were told they were required to have a net over their balcony to prevent the cats from falling off the rails or mixing with other cats.  And my friend followed this rule! IN A RENTED APARTMENT. She had to figure out how to attach a net to the concrete balcony jeebus. <div>

Rach, if it's an iPhone I'd think it was safe.  All apple refirbs are excellent in my opinion.  I'd imagine any phone would be ok too.  It's basically just wiped and if something is broken or old it's replaced.  

ETA: Snips that net rule is quite possible the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Rach, I'm currently posting from a refurbished Android. I used to sell cell phones, and the refurbished ones are often ones that were returned during a trial period. Usually, there isn't anything wrong with them.

midge and anna, thank you!  I'm thinking 5:30 would work the best as well - I found a website that says the sun sets around 8pm that week (and yes, it's right after the wedding) but I don't know how long it would be twilight.  I just don't want it to get dark immediately after we go up, since I know I'll want to wander a while.

The good thing is that we can get the 5:30 tickets for our first day there - and that's the day I really want us to not plan on much, just wandering and getting used to the city since our flight gets in at around 7 that morning.

4n6, I think going to the top of the tower is a great thing to do the first day. I think going to the top of something tall can help you get oriented to the city.

4n6 - This is one of my most favorite pictures from that vacation. My cousin and I are on the very left, just taking it all in. We had no idea the tour guide had takent this picture until we talked to our parents the next day.

and this is SO weird - I decided to go ahead and buy the 5:30 tickets on the first day, and when I went to that day on the website, suddenly every time slot is free for the entire week.  Bizarre.  Guess we have a couple more options, maybe we'll do 4:30 or 5pm instead.
