UGH. Facebook account hacked.

So, my FB account was hacked. I changed my password, temporarily deactivated my account, and am now running a virus scan.

Is there anything else I should be doing? Has this happened to you? What did you do?

Any other tips and suggestions would be great!

This will also be a post and run since I'm going to a friend's place.

Re: UGH. Facebook account hacked.

  • Did you change your password on the same computer you use regularly?  You could have a keylogger, so changing your password on that same computer is pointless because they will just know it immediately.
  • Thanks damaless! I'll change it at my friend's place as well. I didn't think of that!

  • You spammed me lol

  • Oh no!  I didn't get any spam from you, but ditto changing your password on a different computer.

    BTW, happy hour this week?

Email your fb friends and let them know that your account was hacked, and not to open any messages/links/whatever from you.  That's how the virus can get passed around.
  • It seems to be happening a lot lately.  I just don't click on anything that looks like a link my friends wouldn't be interested in.

  • Maybe my next computer should be a mac.  The problem is that no one in the legal world uses macs, so I wouldn't be able to do work from home on it.  Of course, my current work computer runs IE 6, so I'm guessing one of my older PCs at home would still work :).
  • I been seeing a lot of the "Iphone" app things going around. It's something you may have clicked on in facebook.. my suggestion as well with the other PP's is to change the pw on a different com. also just be careful what you click on for applications on Facebook.. lower the number of "likes"<uise to be fans.. that you do on pages/groups. I don't think you have to worry too much of a keylogger but it's good just in case.
I think that's all I have. Have fun at your friends.

    Happy 4th everyone.

  • My IT guy told me that the reason Macs don't get viruses is because not enough people use them for it to be "useful" for people to create viruses for them. So, encouraging others to get a Mac would only put you in potential danger for future Mac viruses, wouldn't it?

  • zippityb: That is absolutely true.  My husband builds and fixes computers as well as programs and designs software.  He can easily build viruses for Macs if he wanted to, but as a PP mentioned most places don't use it.  Macs are used mostly for artistic programs like digital imaging, movie editing, etc.  That being said...I hate Macs and I actually use a Linux system.  To each their own.  I just don't click on anything on Facebook

  • I got one about an iphone and just deleted it :)

I don't click on any links people send me, unless its something legit like cnn or something.
