When to start sending thank-you notes???

Hey everyone!

So although my bridal shower is not for another couple of weeks, we've already started receiving gifts at our apartment.  What is the etiquette for when you should start sending thank-you notes?  Can/should I at lest wait until AFTER the shower, or should I get them out as the gifts arrive???

Thanks!

  • Open now (make sure nothing's broken), but don't use it until after the wedding.  Immediately send a thank-you so that the guests know you received the gift.

  • Send right away or you will be like me 5 weeks later and still not completely done.

  • So - noelle24  and MissIntentional, you both think that I could/should send out thank-you's, even though the shower hasn't arrived yet???

  • Yes.  Why would you wait?  You have the gift in hand, you need to send a thank-you.

  • Send them now - don't let them pile up.  I sent TY notes before my shower.

Is it a shower gift? Because the giver might expect you to open it at the shower and will think it is weird you openned it already.

If it's a wedding gift, yes send thank you now like PP said!

Make sure you send the notes out RIGHT after the shower though if you wait for that.
  • Send them now.

  • Send them out as soon as you get the gift so that the person knows that you received it

As soon as you receive a gift, send a thank you. Trust me, when you have a lot to write, it will help you out a lot. I didn't receive any bridal shower gifts ahead of time, but wrote them out immediately afterwards.

As for the wedding presents, if someone sent something to our house or my parents house, I got a description of the item, and sent the TY right out. We have been married 6 wks and just got our thank you's done last week, I couldn't have imagined if I had even 10 more to right on top of that. I know it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but you will be thanking yourself later if you stay on top of them.
  • Sorry to crash this post BUT...
What if you get a gift from someone at the shower, and then another gift at the wedding?  Send two thankyou cards, one immediately following each event?  I just had my shower yesterday and my wedding isn't for almost 2 months, so it would be way too long to wait to send a thankyou for gifts I receieved yesterday...Just make sure second thankyou cards are a different design? (I feel like the luckiest girl in the world and want to make sure I am as a gracious as possible in return!).
