Re: Anyone alive out there?

  • I'm here!  I made some kick ass tostadas for dinner and then we opened our stockings.  DH got me new white tee shirts and tanks so I'm stoked.

Now, we're watching Lost.  If we weren't determined to get through them all before the February 2nd season premiere we would totally be watching Star Wars right now too.

Only a couple more hours until your birfday!
  • I would love some new white tshirts and tanks, I wear mine to work out and they get groddy way too fast. That feels like it was TMI, but ive been drinking so whatever.

It IS almost my birthday!! 2.5 hrs! I cant believe im gonna be 26, i kinda like the sound of 26.
  • My tees were disgusting.  I waited like 5 minutes after we finished the stockings and then tossed them all out.

I can't wait to open gifts tomorrow.  It's so exciting finally having a Xmas with DH.  I feel like a total kid.

26 was a very good year for me.  Got engaged, married, all that good stuff.
  • 23 and 24 were both decent years for me (got engaged, got married, etc). 25 was nothing special, so im hoping 26 really delivers.

I am planning to bag up or throw away a TON of clothes after boxing day, I plan to replace most of my tanktops, dress pants and any thing else that i have been wearing on its last legs.

Do you just open gifts between the two of you tomorrow, or whole family?

Also, wtf is up with this karenstone broad?
  • It's just gifts between the two of us.  We got some gifts from a couple other friends but we already opened them (oops!).  We didn't get anything from his family and my folks gave us cash so we're going to have a little shopping trip to Target next week with some of that money.

What are you guys doing tomorrow?  Do you get double gifts from everyone or do you just get gypped b/c your birthday's on Xmas?
  • We open one gift on xmas eve (my family tradition). He opened his Zac Brown CD and I got the first season of Friends. So that is what we are watching and drinking.

Oh I am also trying to find the signs I want to use as a placements and a twist on a guest book.
  • I get double gifts from my mom and aunts, usually from my dad though I dont think he got me anything this year. My IL's actually sent me a birthday card separate from our christmas gift with a gift card to michaels. I though that was pretty nice. We know we are getting gift cards from most of our close family members so we are going boxingday shopping - me for clothes, my husband for a tv and a blueray.

Ive always wanted to be in a family that opens one gift on chrstmas eve, but my mom would never go for it.

Sounds Christmassy to me.  We're watching Iron Chef America  ;)

Dh and I exchanged gifts, had dinner and now are just sitting back waiting for the storm
  • How much are you supposed to get anna?
  • My mom never went for the Christmas Eve gift opening either.  Glad I get to make new rules now!

That sounds like a good haul.  You're gonna have fun on boxing day.

I need new clothes so bad.  I'm really hoping there are some new sweaters in the gifts from H.  I told him while we were out today that if there wasn't a sweater in there I would let him sneak off for a little bit to get me one!  He didn't take me up on it so I'm assuming they're already under the tree.
  • Im the same for sweaters, I have a lot but none of them fit me. I look like a freaking bag lady in all of my clothes.

Do you ever go after christmas shopping there? Are there sales like black friday or is that just the best time to go?
  • Day after Christmas there are sales here too.  It's one of the biggest shopping days.
  • Hah, its so unfair the US gets TWO big shopping days, and we only get one. Typical. You have great stores, great restaurants, we have bupkis!

  • I'm here! Ripping CDs to put on my iPod, because I'll be joining FI in Salt Lake City tomorrow evening so I'm trying to travel light. I'm really looking forward to seeing FI, but I've also really enjoyed my week here in NJ.

    Happy almost birthday Nebb!

  • I'm here, watching the Ghost Hunters marathon and lurking on the Nest beause it's dead here.  I'm about to pop open a bottle of champagne and then it's just waiting for H to get home from work.

I wish we were getting snow here.  Most of ours melted yesterday and tonight/tomorrow we're going to be seeing rain and freezing rain :(

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Sarah - Tell your FI the Knottie girls wish him the best of luck!
  • Thanks Julie!

  • I kind of wish we were getting snow instead of rain. We havnt gotten more than a dusting of snow this entire winter (end of fall). Its sad :(
  • Hello! DH and I exchanged gifts, as did my side of the family. My dad gave us a shotgun to protect our house... My stepdad's family tomorrow and the in-laws. Poor DH has been to three of my family's Christmas parties already.

  • My thought exactly, Nebb.  I figured your weather was probably similar since you live so close to me.

Julez - Funny story! After getting off TK, I mentioned the idea to DH and he told me that he actually had a queen sized airbed hidden in a bucket somewhere. He went through stuff and found it. I put it next to the bags this morning that he would load it into the car and of course, he forgot it! UGH! 1/2 way to MD, I asked him if he had brought it and he said "Oops."

And I am upset right now about another thing. His mom called Monday and after getting off the phone with her, DH told me that we weren't going to be doing gifts with them this year because everyone is trying to save. All we had to do was bring a $5 gift and we'd do a gift swap type thing. Well, I was kind of ticked because I had already gotten some gifts for them, so I left them back at our apartment to give to them at another time (birthdays coming up, etc.) Well, come to find out he misunderstood her - it was the swap PLUS gifts. Everyone has something for us and we have nothing for them (well we brought MIL some wine and a wedding album, but that doesn't really count.) Two years in a row. I could smack him right now! Him misunderstanding things is starting to become a trend!

  • Oh Gretchen that sucks.  Obviously these are clear signs you guys should not be doing Christmas at MIL's house.

And your DH listens as well as mine does.
  • That really sucks ggmae :( I guess youre staying long enough a motel or hotel isnt feasable?
  • GG,

    That sucks.  I'm sorry.

Nebb - We are staying 5 nights, so it would cost us a lot to stay at a hotel/motel. :(

Julez - I am not sure if we should mention to them that DH misunderstood or if we should sit their awkwardly like last year. I even got his sister nice gloves and earrings, but decided to save it for her birthday in 3 weeks instead.

MIL also knows that I can't have heavy cheeses and dinner tonight consisted of crab dip with a bunch of cheeses. Everyone else ate it, and I had crackers. She apologized afterwards for not thinking beforehand that I wouldn't be able to have it. Maybe one of these years I'll feel somewhat welcomed here. The good news is that they have lots of cookies here, and I like cookies. :)
