If you're my friend on FB you might have seen this, but we got bad news about our cat, Nimbus, today. He's been having some problems breathing heavily over the last few months. About a month ago, the vet drained some fluid out of his chest that was pushing on his lungs. We had to take him in again today for the same thing (he was actually breathing through his mouth over the weekend after running around because of the fluid pushing on his lungs). Well, they drained his chest again, and did an ultra sound, and discovered he has advanced heart disease. His prognosis is between 2 weeks and 3 months.
I knew we'd probably only have a year left with him, max. I've never met a cat with more health problems - recurring herpes infections in his right eye, for example. For those who were here last summer, you might remember I was afraid we were going to lose him - he had liver failure and we had to feed him through a feeding tube for 5 weeks. He lost 3 pounds off his 10 pound frame. But he pulled through. He's doing okay now and he seems to be perkier since he had the fluid drained today. He's on a medication and we'll get his chest drained again if he needs it and if the vet thinks it's feasible.
I adopted him when I was 22 (7 years ago in July) when he was 7. His old owner had to rehome him because her baby was allergic. He's a dark gray Norwegian forest cat and he's my baby. He was the first pet I got on my own. Of course I moved around a lot when I was younger, and occassionally had roommates with other cats, but Nimbus has always loved other cats, especially kittens. I hope he thinks he's had a good life. I'm just going to miss him so much.
