Really, potential videographer? Really?

I had sent a few e-mails around looking for a videographer for our wedding. One guy charged a certain amount but said he was willing to be flexible on his website, so I e-mailed him with our budget to see if he'd work with us. His first response (received at 8 PM):

Well, Poli, I suppose I could CONSIDER filming JUST your ceremony for $XXX. You need to call me tonight.

Um, thanks? After that, we found another guy who seemed really cool and who will film our ceremony and toasts/first dances, etc. for the same price. Decided to go with him. Today, I receive this e-mail from the first guy:

It looks like you lost out on an awesome opportunity to have me do your wedding. Good luck finding a cheaper videogragher who will do SO much for SO little. Have fun with that.

Looks like I dodged a bullet with Mr. Attitude. Any rude vendor stories to share?

Holy shiit! What a douche-basket. I hope you had a super snarky little response for his ass on that one. He's obviously just past the point of desperation and has way too much time on his hands (and not enough gigs, obviously).

I have no rude stories, per se, but our DJ was a huge moron. I wrote all about him in my wedding poll post a few days ago.

Glad you went with the other guy.

When we were looking at photographers we found one but he was relatively new to the game. He had only 2 client portfolio's to show me and I had asked him for three references. He gave me the name and number of one, but he said that it was a friend of his. So I asked for two more and he freaked on me. Good thing too, because we found a much better photographer although a bit pricey.

I don't have any rude stories, but I'd post that ALL over your local and let people know what a craphole he is.  Unless he used to work in Hollywood, he can't be THAT good to have that arrogance.

I agree! And even if he did work in Hollywood and is an amazing photographer, he probably wouldn't bother to sit down and type up a passive aggressive "hahaha11!eleven! You snooze you lose!" email to a client that passed on him.

I vote that he was the suck.

Yikes.  We didn't have any douches, really, but we did contact a musician to play at our reception in January of 2009.  He responded to our email...in January of 2010.

I met with an up and coming photog when we first got engaged and were planning a local wedding.  He came highly recommended because he had awesome style, but his business sense was later found to be lacking, severely.  Anyway, he came to the meeting without a price sheet or quote, but said he'd email it to me tomorrow.  Waited two weeks before calling, and he said he was working on it but very busy.  Good thing we never went anywhere with him, he took forever to get several MN girls their pics back, if he even has yet.

I just remember calling around for DJs and found several that were charging in the upwards of $4600 for 8 hours.

Seriously? I mean, did they personally write, produce and sing the songs? They all seemed offended that I wanted a lower price.

I ended up finding a seriously fantastic DJ for about $600. I would recommend that company to any Houston bride.

I just had a rude run-in the other day with the owner of the reception hall that we're using. He was being a total ass. We have decided to do table assignments because FI's parents are divorced and their families do not get along AT ALL. So we wanted to keep them separate. We were discussing where to put the escort card table, and I got..

Him: Um, why are having assigned seating?!
Me: It was absolutely necessary to have assigned seating and we both want assigned seating.
Him: Well there isn't enough room for a table to display your cards.
Me: Well what about over here? It seems okay.
Him: NO! That won't look good! You can't do that!
Me: I have worked really hard on my details for the wedding, and we are paying a heck of a lot of money to you. We aren't asking a lot here.
Him: Well we used assigned seating as well so.

Um, okay? Then why are questioning me about it in an unprofessional manner?

Later on..

I wanted to discuss hanging paper lanterns from the ceiling..

Me: Okay so as far as hanging lanterns from the ceiling..
Him: You're hanging stuff from my ceiling? I'm inclined to tell you no.
Me: I bought these lanterns only after I asked you if I could have them and you told me I could.
::He proceeded to give me a rough time and knew that I was right, so he said okay::

I couldn't believe how rude he was being to me. It wasn't just what he was saying, but how he was saying it. It was completely rude and unprofessional. I'm worried that he is going to be rude to our guests on wedding day because all I've heard since we booked him are stories about him and what a douche bag he is.

Jess, we were able to find a DJ repped by the entire MSP board for $250... I'm really excited. I can't believe how much some of them charge!

Actually, I did find a photographer who was willing to shoot much more for the same price. He has also shown to have an exception professional attitude, unlike yourself. I hope you are simply having a bad day and do not treat all potential clients with such negatively, for your sake. I will be posting a review of our brief but telling contact on several wedding boards as I feel it necessary to steer other brides away from a vendor who shows such a lack of regard for his clients.

I agree to give him a piece of your mind, but I would hesitate from letting him know you'll be reviewing him poorly online, so that he cannot hold you accountable for defamation (obviously this depends on laws where you are, but certainly here, defamation is a slippery slope and if I were you, I'd want to stay anonymous in reviews to avoid any risk of that being threatened).

I didn't have any rude ones, although my wedding planner did frustrate the helll out of me at some points. I'm wasn't a total control freak, but I needed to know things like how the tables would be laid out, what the deal was with linens, etc and she kept saying "Oh we'll worry about that later". Finally 2 weeks before the wedding she decided it was worth discussing. Blah.

I had a bus driver get snotty with me.  He was charging WAY too much, and I told him his competition was several hundred less.  Politely.  He told me he didn't want my snotty business anyway.  Good, cause he didn't get it.  Twat.
