Reception Registry?

Look at this:

The article mentions a reception registry.  I've never heard of this.  And it seems like really bad etiquette to have guests pay for the reception they are attending. Am I the only one who has never heard of this?

    I've heard of similar things, like photography registries. Bad etiquette all around.

    I have never heard of that. Strange, though. It seems as though people would be getting physical gifts for any pre-wedding parties so the only thing a reception registry would be applicable to would be the actual wedding, which by then would have to be paid anyway.

    That's probably how all these "must-haves" get started. Someone posts that it's a good idea and everyone jumps on it thinking they now HAVE to have it. Just like favors, Save-the-Dates, Escort cards, matching shoes, etc......
