It's Sunday...

Re: It's Sunday...

  • Snippy - DH pretty much does that when he cooks turkeys.  He says turkey tastes better the longer it sits (think about all the people who like leftovers more than dinner).

I've personally never done that, but now that I think about it, I do prefer turkey leftover over dinner, so maybe self-consciously I do.

  • Yea, he said that if you rest that long, it reabsorbs all of the juices. hrm. Hrm. Something I will try next time I guess!
  • Good morning! I'm really excited because 1. I just checked my final grades and I got a B in english when I thought I was going to get a C. and 2. I'm getting an hour long massage today. I've had this gift card since July and never had time to use it.
  • Yay for the B

Double Yay for a massage.  I love massages.

  • Me too. One of my 101 goals is to get a membership to a spa.

Nino is they guy who owns the place, and he's pretty much one of the nicest people I've ever met and certainly the most Italian. He knows his shiit.. He doesn't have a set menu or set hours, exactly. He just makes what he feels like making and then sells it until it's gone.

Now that's the kind of ish that makes a place feel authentic for whatever reason. The best falafels I've ever had in NY or anywhere else are at this little deli type place tucked away and people think the owner is super mean because he barks if you come in with a credit card or ask too many questions or try to make special requests. But if you just chill, bring cash during his very limited hours, and say "Falafel in a pita pocket", you're good and it's heaven. He's never been mean to me, he's actually sweet, but I don't mess with his "rules".

I can get a [free] massage at least once a month.  But I don't.   I feel like I'm taking advantage of a situation.  Instead I get one every other month.  Other SOs think it's silly I don't.

<div>Good to know.  I will have to check them out.  I like places that do not have set menus or times.  (well not having set times can be a PITA, but I love menus that change)</div>

  • How do you get that Lynda?

Has anyone ever bought the postage-paid greeting cards from Hallmark? How much are they?
  • I don't rest the turkey that long, but I do rest it for at least half an hour.  It helps with the juice redistribution.  You should do that with all meats to prevent them from drying out (because otherwise, the juice all runs out when the meat is freshly cooked and then cut into).  That's also why you should avoid cutting into meat to see if it's done -- do it by the feel of the meat or time or something.

I had this sudden desire to make homemade marshmallows, but I just realized I don't have powdered sugar, and I'm not sure if I'm motivated enough to go to the grocery store again today.  :/  Well, I still have to wrap a gazillion caramels anyway, maybe that will satisfy my domestic urge.

<div>It's benefit DH gets that he can pass on to me (or really anyone).  He gets up to 3 spa services a month.  He only gets his hair cut every 6 weeks.   So in reality I can get 3 services one month and 2 the next.   Generally I get hair done one month and massage the next.</div>

<div>I've never made marshmallows before.  I would not know even where to start.</div>

  • Morning ladies.  We woke up earlier than we'd have liked today because H's dad called on the house phone, boo.  Oh well!  We went to a holiday party last night and I am hurting a little bit today, not too badly.  The hostess's cousin was at the party last night and was WASTED so we enjoyed watching her make a fool of herself.

On tap for today, I think brunch is in order at my favorite restaurant.  We used to go for Sunday brunch all the time but then I started losing weight and had to cut it out - they use all natural, full fat everything and it is marvelous.  But today definitely calls for eggs!  Then tonight I'm trying a new Mexican lasagna recipe that I've been eyeing.  Hope this week goes fast, my parents are coming next weekend, yay!
  • They aren't too hard to make, and they are so darned good.  You'll never want to eat normal, store-bought marshmallows again.

This is the first recipe I used.  Since then, I've made chocolate marshmallows, rose flavored marshmallows, and normal marshmallows.  But for the holidays, this one is great.  The cinnamon makes hot chocolate taste like Mexican hot chocolate.  Yum.

<div>I don't cook Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners yet. My Grandma still insists on doing it. But now I understand part of the reason why the turkey is always dry.</div>

  • All right! Laundry's in, laundry's hung... Lucy's been played with, and it's 4:30 (dark!) so it's time for a nap. mmmm.
  • Morning! I'm hungover from hanging out with the KY girls last night. Good times.

I'm taking Oz to see Santa today. He's pretty excited. I'm also going to run a few errands and maybe find some new shoes. Mine are falling apart and/or are scuffed up and have bite marks from Ozzie's old shoe fetish. I just don't like spending a lot of money on shoes. :(
  • Hey Mica/Birdie,

Did one of you delete my double post from yesterday?  I came home from errands ready to take my lashings for the DP, but it was gone!  Did one of you have my cyber-back? Or is TK really out of whack now?
  • Thanks Mica!

Oh, and for any word-smiths out there, I found this awesomeness floating around facebook today.

Try to say it aloud. It's really, really hard:

  • That's one long-ass poem.  I felt like an idiot saying it all out loud by myself.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who did.  There were a few words in there that I didn't know and therefore hestiated when reading/pronouncing them.  Its interesting.  I think I know an English teacher or two who might like it.

  • GUYS. Tell me what you are buying for your SO and families. I have NO clue what to get my parents, and basically everyone else in my life except my ILs.

  • Rosie, here's what I've got so far:
H: pair of shoes that he needs, a Soda Stream with three syrup flavors that he'll love, a T shirt that is an inside joke
sister: a mug with a picture of her and her FI, a GC for Nordstrom (her annual request)
    father: a 7" viewsonic tablet
    mother: a fitbit
    H's parents: a patio cooler
  • Mica - DH just bought the Soda Streamer thing.  It's pretty cool.

Rosie - here is what I've gotten for DH:

box of art supplies (brushes, charcoals, paints, etc)
    canvases
    Blue Brother's style hat
    mints (stuffing stuffer)
    retractable back scratcher
    pjs.
Still need to buy him an easle
Maybe a few other odds and ends

I have no idea what to get anyone else.

  • Glad to know, Lynda!  I'm excited at the idea of not having to lug boxes of soda home from the grocery store.
  • I do not drink much soda to begin with.  Maybe a 7up once or twice a week.

DH on the other hand is a different story.  He is mostly excited not to have to look for some club soad for his vodka.  It seems like the stores are always out.
