Re Writing Thankyou Notes

Hey there, I need to poll the audience...

We have just started getting wedding gifts delivered to my parents home, and won't be opening them until we return from our honeymoon in late May.  What's the etiquette for writing Thank You's for these?  I want to acknowledge to the giver that we received their gift rather than leaving them hanging for two more months, but I don't know yet exactly what the gifts are...
Any brilliant ideas? Thanks Ladies!

Re: Re Writing Thankyou Notes

  • You open the gifts you receive now and write the TY card now. You do not wait 2 months to open the gifts.

  • Open the gifts to make sure nothing broke in transit and write a thank you so that the sender knows that you got it.  Don't use it until after the wedding.

  • It's better to actually open the gifts for several reasons.

1.) While it seems fun to let the gifts pile up and open them at once, writing the thank you notes all at once will be a nightmare.

2.) Writing thank you notes without mentioning what the gift was seems generic. If I recieved a note saying "Thank you so much for the gift!" I'd feel like it was mass produced and personally I'd be offended.

3.) As PPs have mentioned, if anything is broken/missing it would be easier to exchange it now rather than later. Also, if it is electric I would even go as far as to plug it in to make sure that it works.

  • Open the gifts and write the thank you notes now.  People will want to know you received their gift.

Wait to use the gifts until after the wedding.
