Ghosty type stories

Re: Ghosty type stories

  • Leah- I totally couldn't handle that.

L- It was the worst night of my life.
Funny thing is, I am always yelling at FI for stuff like this. More than once, I've told him to stop trying to scare me after I hear someone whisper my name in the hall. We had a huge fight one day because I came out of the bathroom yellign at him for screwing with me. He hadn't even been in that part of the house.

  • I had a dream about a friend that died once, but it was awful. He had committed suicide and in the dream he was just standing there unable to talk. I could have done without that dream.

  • LTB - Did you end up telling your family?

My mom keeps telling me that I should keep my promise (I promised to tell the girls) but I'm very unsure about that.

  • Bec those stories are crazy!!  I would die if I saw cabinets opening/closing like that.  freaky.

here is the pic I was talking about.  I used my phone to take a pic of the pic, so its pretty blury (which is probably a good thing since its an awful pic of me and god only knows who dressed my sister that day)

The face is on the wall to the left of the hutch.  In person you can see his eyes/beard in the pic, this is a bit blurry, but can at least get the idea

  • Leah- That's a tough call. Would you feel better about it if you told them, or do you think it would comfort them?
    image
  • eeeep! I see the face in the photo!

It's funny, because before I lived in that house I would have told you people you were all nuts. Now I would never question anything someone saw or felt. Experiencing something like that definitely makes you a believer!

  • Jes that pic is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
  • My cousin bought a photograph of an old house at a yard sale.  Shortly after bringing it home, her daughter who was abour 3 or 4 at the time started talking to a corner of the room. When my cousin asked who she was talking to, her daughter replied in that "Duh!" voice, "The little GIRL, Mom!"  One day they were playing on the bed and her daughter's leg was hanging over the edge of the bed. Her daughter suddenly pulled her leg up and looked startled. My cousin asked what was wrong, and she said "That man grabbed my leg."

My cousin got rid of the photograph. Someone she knew who had ghosts in her house excitedly took the photo.  I guess she figured if she already had ghosts in the house, might as well welcome more. She told my cousin if she ever wanted the photograph back, to let her know. My cousin said, "Nah, I'm not going to want i back."

  • My mom saw her FIL (my granddad's) ghost. She was big pregnant with my brother, and I was an infant. She was up early one morning, like 3:30, waiting on the paper to be delivered. She said she got bored and hungry, so she decided to make banana bread. She said she put the loaf pan in the oven and when she turned around, she could see this apparition in the living room. It moved all the way down the living room, and down the hall, toward my bedroom. She followed it into my bedroom and saw it standing over my crib, then it disappeared. Mom said she went and woke dad up and told him that she saw his dad. Dad says "that's impossible, he's dead." Mom said, "Yeah, I know, I saw his ghost." Then Dad said, "We bought this house after he died, how does he know where we live?" That story always made me feel special. According to my mom, there is a person willing to cross planes of existence to see me.

  • When my brother was little, his toys used to randomly go off. He had an elmo that danced when you pressed the hand, and some motion sensor stuff. They would go off at night a lot. When he was about 5, he started seeing little globes of light.
He would stand on his bed at night laughing and trying to grab these balls of light. He said they were  blue and green, and got really mad when my parents couldn't see them too. He said there were hundreds of them flying around the room.

I hate and love this thread all at the same time. Im kinda freaked out.

I currently live in the house I grew up in and starting at around when I was 8 years old weird shiit started to happen. Everything centers around the dining room. I had a sleep over one night and my friend was sitting on a sofa that looks into the dining room and claimed she could see a man in a white suit standing next to the microwave. Shortly after that time, I was walking behind my mom going into the kitchen and when she passed the microwave, an empty bread basket flew off the microwave and hit her.

As I got older, I started to have AWFUL graphic and morbid nightmares, and when I would wake up I wouldnt open my eyes because it felt like "the scary" was in my room watching me. It happened regularly and just drove me nuts. When I would fall asleep sometimes, I could hear voices talking - not the words, but the sound of a voice speaking. My mom claims that sometimes she could hear me talking in my sleep and it sounded like I Was actually talking to someone.

When I was a teenager I was in the livingroom on the phone and I could hear footsteps in the other room, so I shouted to my mom because I had a question and she didnt answer. So I put the phone down and went out into the dining room and then the kitchen to find her and she wasnt there, so I went to the bottom of the stairs and shouted up to ask why she didnt answer me. She had never been downstairs, she had been in her bedroom the entire time.

One morning I was home alone and just let the dog in through the doors next to the microwave and it had been raining out and I was bent over wiping her paws and when I stood up, the dog took off into the other room but I could hear this heavy breathing from behind me. It scared me so bad I went to school an hour early that day.

The computer room in that house was directly above the dining room and the desk was right about where the microwave would be in the room below. I was sitting on the computer one night and out of the corner ofmy eye I saw a flash of light go by on the picture frame that was next to me (theres nothing in the room that would have caused that) and I heard a loud crash below me in the dining room and the floor started to shake a bit. I lost it and made my mom go downstairs - she hadnt heard anything crash and nothing was displaced downstairs.

Right before I moved out of the house to go to college I was in my room packing and I turned off my bedroom light and walked across the hall and sat down at the computer, and when I looked up I saw the light in my bedroom flip back on. I again lost it and called my mom begging her to come home.

Once I moved out, the nightmares stopped and ive never had dreams like that since.

I was worried, moving in, that they would start again but they havnt. There have been a few strange things happen since we moved in though. We have set up the old computer room as a "living room" and my old bedroom across the hall is my husbands office now. One night we were sitting on the couch in our upstairs livingroom watching tv and the dog was laying in the door. He jumped up and started barking furiously at the top of the stairs, barking and growling and he was moving his head and body as though he was watching someone walk up the stairs. He moved his direction and started barking towards the office door, and it was as though he was barking at someone walk up the stairs, walk through the hall and into the front bedroom.

It hasnt happened in awhile though, thank god. It freaks me.
  • jasmineh: I'm really not sure. I'm leaning towards no.. Because well they are both under the ages of 10. Its really weird though, every time I think of the dream a pen will fall. Like at work, two pens just fell from no where.

  • I don't have any ghost stories, I just wanted you ladies to know that you have successfully creeped me out today. My skin is crawling and some of reading some of these stories made me want to cry. That's how scared I am right now!

  • LC- That's a sweet ghost story. :)

It reminded me of my mom's story. She and her first husband lived on a ranch, in the middle of nowhere. In the winter, the only way out was on a 4-wheeler. My older brother was a baby, and his dad would leave them alone for days at a time. My mom would have to chop wood and take care of the animals. One day, she was out by the barn. She looked up, and in the barn window she could see a woman hung from the rafters. A woman had actually killed herself on the property.
There was a loft in their house. One night, mom was downstairs with the baby and she heard her husband whisper her name from the loft, repeatedly. She went up, and he was fast asleep.
We've talked about going back to the ranch to visit sometime, but I'm convinced that we will end up getting murdered. There's even a random lake on the property, think Crystal Lake. *shudder*

  • Leah- maybe write them a letter and give it to their caregiver. Then the decision is on them. Kind of a cop out, but maybe it would help. P.S. I am totally picturing you as the Ghost Whisperer now. ;)
    image
  • Oh Leah, you probably don't want to hear this but you have to tell them.

Maybe the pen falling is a sign that if you're not comfortable going to talk to any of the family members, that you could write them a letter.  Who is taking care of the children?  Or is this woman's mother still alive?

I know it would be super awkward, how do you say "I know this will sound crazy, but the night that Jane died..."  But I think that's exactly what you need to do.  Just let them know that she wanted to make sure they knew she loved them.  You could tell the adult you write to that he/she can convey that however they like, even if it is something as simple as "a lady saw your mom the night she went to heaven and your mom told her how much she loves you girls."

I don't know why she chose you to appear to, but she came to you for a very specific reason, and I think as freaky as the whole thing is. you need to convey that to the family somehow.  Her last thoughts were clearly about her girls, and they should know that.  A letter is something that later on when they are older and may understand, they can read for themselves and appreciate what a daunting task you were assigned and what it must have taken for you to convey the message.

  • Oh, I forgot about the dreams. This is really silly and minor, but when I was 8, I had a hamster. One night, I dreamed he died. I woke up all in a panic, checked him out, woke him up, and everything was cool. But when I came home from school, he was dead.

I also woke up knowing that my great grandmother was dead. This was the same year as the hamster dream. She was sick, and we all knew it was coming soon. I woke up in the middle of the night, went and got my mom and told her Mama Hufty was dead. I slept with my parents that night and the first phone call they got that morning was from my grandmother saying that my great grandmother had passed away.

I think that's my favorite part of the story. My dad is so practical. My mom told him that if his dad could figure out how to get here from his grave, then finding the address shouldn't be too hard for him.

  • Jas--they definitely say that children are the most perceptive to these kinds of experiences. Many of us grow up and either get desensitized or are taught in school or church that these things don't happen/exist.

The restaurant where we shot our e-pics was once my family's clothing store. The first floor housed the business, and several family members lived on the 2nd & 3rd floors.  When we talked to the current owner about doing the pics on the 2nd floor (now their "VIP Room", previously my family's dining room, living room and great-grandmother's study), he talked of several experiences they and the previous owners had.  Nothing bad, just lights on in the living quarters when they'd turned them off, music playing late at night when they were closing when they jukebox wasn't even on, etc.  I was kind of hoping we'd see some things in the photos or get a feeling some folks were there, but nothing specific.

However the first time he let us up to the 2nd floor to look around, walking up the old wooden staircase, I seriously felt like I was going to step onto the 2nd floor and be in the 1940s.  All of a sudden, it felt like for a moment, it was a different time.

  • Wow some of you ladies have really creepy stories!

The dream stories reminded me of another one I have... it's not really scary but it fits in. FI's grandfather passed away a few years before we met. Everyone in his family always speaks so highly of him, and people have told me more than once that he and I would have gotten along just swimmingly.

Just after FI and I decided/announced that we were getting married, I started having dreams that his grandfather was walking me down the aisle at our wedding. What's really spooky is that FI has had the same dream, often on the same night(s) that I do.

His mother thinks it's a sign that Grandpa approves. :) I hope so!
  • My brother died 16 years ago.  My nephew was 9 at the time.  He woke up one morning about a week after my brother died and told my sister that Uncle Billy woke him up last night.  He said that uncle Billy was sitting on his bed and told him that he was fine and to be good and listen to his mom.

We had a lot of things happen over the years, small things, that we always chalk up to my brother letting us know he was with us.  The tv would change channels every once in a while.  My niece had a bear that would sing when you pushed its belly.  That thing would start singing randomly when there was nobody in the room with it or the kids were asleep already.  Every once in a while I would feel poking on my head or shoulder like someone was pestering me.  When I would say "all right that is enough" or "stop it" it would stop.  My mom has heard my brother laugh a couple of times.

My FI doesn't like to go upstairs at my mom's house.  He says that if my brother was going to scare the crap out of anyone it would be him.  lol  That is very true.
1st pic of us together. Apparently I thought something was funny.

  • AK- That is so sweet! Maybe you guys could bring a little picture of him for your bouquet.

HD- That sounds really comforting. :)

  • jasmineh- We've talked about doing something to recognize his presence at the wedding. We've seriously felt it ever since we started planning. I never had the chance to meet him, yet there's even been a few times where I have seen someone in public (at the store, the mall, etc.) and I SWEAR it was him.

I like the idea of a picture for my bouquet. Maybe in a little locket. My florist was asking me if I had any "trinkets" that I wanted to hang from my bouquet... and I don't. That might just be perfect.
  • Nebb, I had dreams like that at my parents house. Thankfully, they've stopped since I moved out. Terrible, gruesome dreams that would terrify me when I woke up and sometimes would wake up in tears. Always when I woke up from them, the room would feel very heavy, like there was lots of humidity or something, if that makes any sense. I never really saw anything, it was just that feeling when I woke up and those horrid dreams.

Thats totally how it felt. I can still remember all of the nightmares too, they were awful.
  • I have a few:

One time a friend and I were playing in my backyard (big yard with lots of woods).  There had been a hurricaine a few weeks before and there were a few trees down with thier roots sticking out of the ground.  We were in the woods playing on the fallen tree, and I stepped from behind the roots and there was a shadow outline of a man with a hat carries a scythe.  We both saw the man and with no words exchanged ran screaming for my dad.  He looked and of course nothing was there.

I have alot of stories about odd things coming out of closets, and my bed shaking.  The one that stood out though was when I was about seven, I was laying in my bed and it started shaking.  I got really scared and ran to sleep in my older sisters room.  I was almost asleep (and she was sleeping) when a man opened the closet door, paused and looked at me  and then jumped out the window.  I screamed, and my dad went outside with his shotgun to see if anyone was there, and there wasn't.  My parents still have weird things go on, and they have gotten one of those infared motion activated cameras, which have so far produced two pics that are pretty odd, one with what looks like a man walking away from the house, and another with really strange lights around.  Our neighboors told us that they lady that lived there before us was crazy, and possibly a witch...

One time when I was younger I was at a friends birthday party.  We decided to do light as a feather stiff as a board, which worked to our surprise.  Fast forward to later in the night.  There were about twenty porcelin dolls in the room arranged very nicley in a cabinet.  They were facing us when we went to sleep, and when we woke up because another girl started screaming, they were facing the other way.  Another girl was still asleep with her eyes open, creepy.

And finally, when my grandmother was in the hospital, we all went down to visit her one day.  My little cousin (she was two) kept asking us if we heard the music.  We all laughed and thought she was just cute.  Well, a little while later, she started just grabing for something in the air.  We asked her what she was doing and she said "The angels are so soft!  The angels are here!!"  About five minutes later my grandmother passed away.

  • Holy crap, I'm glad it's daytime while I'm reading these!

I lived in an old apartment for 4 years that was haunted. I moved there when I was getting divorced and it was in a crap town in a crap part of the crap town. My dad thinks it used to be part of one of the nearby churches because the layout of the apartment (actually, it was one side of a duplex that sat behind a fourplex) was so similar to the buildings associated with his Catholic school growing up. Anyway, from the moment I moved in my cat would sit and stare at this one wall of the kitchen all. the. time. She would also "talk" to the wall, like someone was there talking to her.

The back of the apartment was where my bathroom and bedroom were. It was old, probably from the 1930's, and had a weird layout where there was a door from the kitchen to the bathroom, then a second door from the bathroom to my bedroom. You could basically run in a full circle in my apartment. I never felt comfortable in the bathroom and hated closing my eyes to wash my face in the shower. I always felt like there was someone standing on the other side of the shower curtain watching me. For four years. I only had a curtain liner (clear) and never an actual opaque shower curtain because I was terrified of someone being on the other side watching me.

The bedroom had a tiny closet and every time I opened it I expected someone to be  standing in there. The door was hard to open as they added carpet to the bedroom so you really had to push and  pull it to open and shut the door. I ALWAYS made sure that door was shut at night because the closet creeped me out but, periodically, I would wake up in the morning and it would be standing open. My FI didn't believe me until it happened once when he spent the night.

About a year after I moved in I was laying in bed, reading. Over the top of the book I could see both my bedroom and bathroom doors. Suddenly I realized there was a little boy, maybe 7 years old, standing in front of my bedroom door. He had dark hair and pale skin. He was wearing what looked like a school uniform and was just looking at me. I glanced back down at my book and when I looked up again he was gone. For some reason it didn't bother me and I just turned off the light and went to sleep.

Around the same time period I would get this horrible feeling when I was trying to go to sleep that someone was running through the kitchen, into the bathroom, then into my bedroom straight at the foot of my bed, yelling, even though I couldn't hear anything. It happened every night for a while until I finally yelled at it to stop scaring me, that it had my attention and I knew it was there.

Finally, there was a weird dead space in the walls between the bathroom and the bedroom, next to the closet. Every time I passed it I got the creeps and I kept thinking off all the weird stuff that could be in that dead space, like a body or something.

I was so happy to leave that apartment. I never get the creeps while showering anymore.
