addressing invitations

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to address the following situation. My friend is engaged, which means I have to invite her FI by name rather than just "guest". The live together so I assume only one invitation is in order. The tricky situation is that they have children. I can't really say Mr. & Mrs and children because theyre not married. Do I list everyone's names?

Re: addressing invitations

  • If you are inviting the children, you could address the outside as:

    Mr. John Smith
    Mr. Jane Doe

Then the inside envelope, or an insert card, could say: John, Jane, Billy and Sarah

If you have no inner envelopes, you could write on the outer envelope

    Mr. John Smith
    Miss Jane Doe
    Billy and Sarah Smith

  • Ms. Jane Smith
    Mr. John Doe
    Dick, Jane, Harry

BTW, you should be inviting all significant others by name, not just those that are engaged.  I'm sorry if I read wrong, but I get the impression from your post that you otherwise would be inviting boyfriends and girlfriends as "& guest" which is incorrect.
  • Oh yeah, i forgot to mention I'm not having inner envelopes, which is why I can figure it out.
And yes, all SOs are invited by name, not just engaged couples, I just wanst clear about it. Thanks!
