How do we feel about...

Re: How do we feel about...

  • I like Elizabeth or Elisabeth. They're both lovely names.

However, as I have a name people can neither spell nor pronounce, I would lean towards the z spelling.  But I do really like Elisa as the shortened version of Elisabeth, so now I'm totally torn.
  • Coming from someone who has an Irish name that ends in -ita, having to tell people how to spell you're name isn't really that annoying. Trust me, I have to do it every time I say my name. And it's much easier to say "Elisabeth with an S" than to have to spell out the whole thing. I think most people would get it.

I think Libby is my favorite NN followed by Lissie.

  • I always thought both spellings were pronounced the same, unless you are using a NN. (Lizzy vs. Lissa). I know a girl who spells it with an s and its the same.

My middle name has an extra letter, so I have been correcting people forever. The lady at the DMV asked me if I was sure...I'm like yes, I think I know my own name thanks! Of course a middle name does not need correcting as often as a first, since you use the first name more often.

Do what you like. Its different but not bad different.

  • I've met an Ellizabeth that shortened hers to Zibby.  Or, I guess, her two year old brother shortened it for her when she was born.  He couldn't figure out how to say Elizabeth.
  • Everytime I say Elisabeth in my head, I say it with an lisp and think of the nickname Elise. I don't think correcting people would be too big of a deal though

  • a very pretty name.
but as others said, to make it Liz or Lizzy seems weird if the name is spelled with an S.

i dont care for "Beth" either, but i hate "Betsy" more.

My BF has a sister named Elisabeth.

For short, They call her Lisa.  But it's pronounced Lis-ah, not Lee-sa.

    Does that make sense?

ETA: I read some responses, I guess they spell her shortened name Lissa.

  • For the first four years of his life, my son thought his name was "Geoffrey-with-a-G"

[QUOTE]I have a friend named Elizabeth and I always shorten it to Liz, not Beth.  I think that's a more common way to shorten it, at least from the Elizabeth's I've known. I like it with the <strong>"s" instead of the "z"</strong>.  <strong>She will need to correct people sometimes, though.</strong>
