I've already made a decision not to say anything; I'd just like to hear your thoughts.
So my FI and I went to my parents house a little after we got engaged (end of June) to tell them the dates we were thinking about for the wedding. My sister was over there at the time. My FI and I remember saying May 19th or May 26th because the beginning of May wasn't good since it was close to the end of busy season (I'm an accountant) and he has some friends in school that would be finishign up school, finals, etc. Well, for whatever reason, my sister heard May 6th or May 19th.
We chose May 26th and put down a deposit at the venue and church. I found out several days later that the high school my sister teaches at is having their first graduation that day (it's a new school so this is their first senior class). I don't know the exact title of the position my sister holds, but she's kind of a PT teacher and then PT administration. I do know its a leadeship role, so it's important to her that she be there. She was initially supposed to be the MOH, but since my FI and I already put a deposit down, she decided that the best solution would be to step down from the wedding party so that there was more flexibility in her schedule and would be more likely to attend both events.
When the time for the graduation first came out, it was 3pm which would have worked out since my wedding is at 5pm. Well, I just got a text from her that its been moved to 5:30. Houston is huge... so it would take her probably close to an hour to get to my side where the wedding is being held.
I've decided not to say anything as far as what I think she should choose... because her initial reaction to the situation showed me how important this graduation was to her. Instead of her saying "It looks like the graduation is the same day. I'm not sure what time it is yet, but I'll be at your wedding either way" it's been "Your wedding and the graduation is the same day, and this is a problem." There are a lot of people who have already told me they've put it on their calendar, so I'll focus on them. But I can't help but be a little sad about this.
