Rehersal Dinner Potential Problem...

My FMIL/FIL are hosting the rehersal dinner.  No problem.  The problem is that my FMIL feels only certain people should be invited ie bridal party, the parents, my grandma, and any of her family from out of town.

She also said if my mother wants extra people ie her sister (who is oot) or even the ring bearers parents then my mother will have to pay for them.  I think this is a bit much.  We also have several of our friends from oot who are coming a long way to be here for our wedding I think they shouldn't be left on their own in the hotel.

Any advice?

  • Unfortunately, if your FMIL is hosting, she has final say in who is going to be invited to the rehearsal dinner.  Although I think that ousting the ring bearer's parents is a bit much; if he's a child, they should be invited as well.

If it's important to you that your OOT guests be invited, then you should offer to front the cost of those guests.  There is no nice way to demand that your FMIL pay for extra people.

  • The ring bearer must be invited, and since he's a child, that means his parents should be with him, at your FMIL's cost.  However, if it's going to cause world war 3, I'd just pay for his meal and any others that you want to attend.

Trust me WW3 has already broken out, but I'm the one caught iin the crossfire.  Neither mother knows about all the issues each of them has with the wedding only me....I'm a little stressed to say the least!

But my future husband said we would pay for any additional people.  He is also heading his mother off at the pass before she asks my mother to pay for extra people.  Thanks for the help.
