How to invite guests of Children?

FI and I decided that we weren't going to invite people we weren't super close to, to easily make a small wedding of about 60 people.  Since I have two best friends and a very small family, and he only has one best friend and a decent sized family, this is no problem.  We are at 46 invites (but not quite done adding people) and would like to allow the teenagers to bring guests, because we remember what a "drag" it was to hang with family for extended periods of times in those awkward ages.

How do we address an invite to a family who has children that we are allowing to bring a guest?

  • Send the teenagers that you are allowing to bring a guest a separate invitation.

If they are over 18 and still live at home, then send them a seperate invite. If not, just say "and family" or list their names on the inner envelope if you are having one. If no inner enevelope, just list them on the outter in the order of their age (oldest to youngest).

Edit: read that wrong -still must be half asleep. I would probably use the inner envelope to put "and guest" next to the teenagers name
  • If you want to invite them with guests, age should not matter. each should get their own invite.

  • I am addressing it to all the people who live in the house and guest after each of the kids names, then on the top of my RSVP card it say x seats have been reserved in your honour. So if it was a family of 4 with 2 kids I would put 6 before sending them out.

If they are over 18 they will be getting seperate invites
  • I think a separate invitation for those older teenagers is most appropriate and most clear, but the other suggestions also work - including a separate note or else "Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Susie and guest."

If they are teenagers, I'd call the parents and let them know.  or just write in a note that the kids can bring a friend each.

Sending a separate invite to young kids may give them a little more power than the parents are willing to allow...
