Dumb argument

Somehow (I don't even know how), H and I got on to the subject of human beings landing on the moon. And I learned something new about my H tonight. He apparently doesn't believe that we have ever set foot on the moon. And he adamantly argues this, to the point where I just gave up and said F it.

But it got me thinking.

Re: Dumb argument

  • I did watch a show all about the conspiracy about not landing on the moon before.  I love conspiracies. :)
    Photobucket
  • I've seen some credible arguments that we never went to the moon.  I think its weird but I'm pretty sure by now we've done it for real.

  • Mythbusters did a show on this conspiracy, and I thought it was pretty interesting.  The conspiracy was severely busted.  I don't understand why people would be so convinced we have not been to the moon.
  • He gets in to the conspiracy thing, but I've never seen him this adamant before.

I tried watching that Jesse Ventura show with him once and realized that was a bad idea.
  • Hmm I'd be interested to see the Mythbusters episode. I'll have to look that up. I like those guys!
  • I absolutely loved that Mythbusters episode, and I pretty much love them in general.

It actually really offends me when people claim we didn't go to the moon.  I really hate that so many brilliant people invested so much of their time and talent to accomplish something so incredible, not to mention the astronauts who put their lives on the line (and a few who even lost their lives), and less than 50 years later people are claiming they're all liars and phonies, based on stupid conspiracy ideas that can be debunked in a 1-hour television show?!? I just think it's incredibly ignorant and disrespectful.

    ...okay, done venting now.

  • Yes, we went to the moon.  And I SERIOUSLY sideeye people who don't believe that.

  • I 100% believe that we went to the moon, but would be really fascinated with any conspiracy theory tv shows on the subject. I like conspiracy theories.
  • Most of you ladies are too young for this but I SAW IT

    Well, it was on TV

  • Of course we did.

Yup, it's called Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura. And my damn computer just crashed when I went to the show's website. So don't do that. But it's on truTV or something.

That's OK. I'm a firm believer that you can balance eggs on flat surfaces on the equinox. Some people think I'm nuts whenever I bring that up. But I do it every year just to prove it.

well, we may just find out when they do the demolition of the old Meadowlands stadium.  Myth is that he was buried there in the end zone.  not sure which end zone though

Haha! No, I don't think I saw that one. Another favorite of mine that comes to mind is where they found out what happens when you stand on the far end of a runway when a plane is landing. Wheeee!!!
  • I know we landed on the moon.

I grew up about 10 minutes from mission control, I know several of the austronauts who dedicated years to the NASA program and the moon missions specifically.  It is always so frustrating to hear people adamantly not believe when I know what they went through, what their families went through, and what my community missed when they were on missions. We did land on the moon no question about it, but I do know that these are just words that won't convince a conspiracy theorist.

heck yeah!  Boiler Up!  What department?  I was (still am) a Civil Engineer.  Actually, I prefer to be called a structural engineer, but that's beside the point.

My dad's in aeronautical engineering (his office is actually in the new Armstrong building), and FI is an electrical engineer. I don't think I know anyone that did CivE, though... very cool!
